Without pinpointing a specific agency, President Benigno Aquino III on Tuesday admitted that government efforts had fallen short in preventing the tragedy caused by tropical storm Sendong over the weekend.

“Kailangan ko pong tanungin ang aking sarili: sapat ba ang nagawa ng inyong pamahalaan para iwasan ang ganitong klaseng trahedya? Hindi ko po yata matatanggap na nagawa na namin ang lahat; alam kong may kaya pa kaming gawin,” Aquino said in his speech in Cagayan de Oro, one of the areas hardest hit by the storm.

“Wala po tayong hangad na magturo kung sino ang dapat sisihin sa ganitong mga panahon. Ngunit obligasyon nating tukuyin kung ano ang nangyari,” Aquino added.

It was the first time that the President acknowledged government shortcomings in preventing the disaster that has claimed close to 1,000 lives, mostly due to flash floods brought by the cyclone.

Lack of warning systems, geography, unusually heavy rainfall, and human folly have been blamed for the high death toll. Thousands of families in evacuation centers are in need of clean water, food, and other basic needs after their homes and belongings were swept away by rampaging floods.

unsa nga generation imong pasabot TS nga help-me-give-me? Kay sa akong tan-aw ang mga affected (or mga gahi ug ulo for that matter) is lain2x man age level. Kasagaran man pinoy mga help-me-give-me. the post is intended for everyone victim or not.. please comprehend and think logicly, like i said i did sympathize them but it doesnt remove the fact their fate is their own doings... there must be done and it should be done...

What we have to understand is, a lot of the people who live in those areas do not have the option to live somewhere else. Mao nah, those who are able to live in comfort, count your blessings well, because there are people who in their lifetime will never have those comforts. I understand perseverance weighs a great deal on a person's success, pero we have to take into account that opportunity still matters. There are hard-working people in destitution, as well as lazy people who indulge themselves in riches. Some times being diligent is not enough, lady luck can be giving, but she can also be a harsh mistress--

so even if indeed for some or most people it is their own undoing, it wouldn't be fair to generalize.

the main issue here is that WE NEVER LEARNED... i dont believe we dont have a choice... there is always a choice... now this is what i said about HELP-ME-GIVE-ME attitude.... hay nako... mods better close this thread its going nowhere na people cant seem to understand the real issue...
