Hi. Im a girl... so forgive my ignorance about it.

What's with the grunting ba? Sometimes, over ra kaayo and dili na nindot paminawon.

I like to learn becuase i want to lose weight. This will serve as my exercise, plus, i can protect myself pa. But of all the martial arts i have seen (and i have seen only few), im really keen on learning Arnis because of the Women in the movies. With the guys, it's mostly grunts and it's not sexy.

Hope dili mo ma-offend ha. Just my two cents worth.

    Zahara,

Aren't we all (loose weight) hehehehe...

Anyway, learning martial arts is not for the purpose of loosing weight - there are other activities that can trim down your physical appearance... i.e. swimming, basketball, tennis, volleyball ug bedminton... este badminton. hehehehe. So, the purpose of learning gani ug martial arts is to protect yourself (relatives), discpline, honor, personal accomplishments to name a few... one thing that FMA can a benefit to you is -- to learn how to use weapons... may it be sticks, knife, guns or anyhting that your hand can grab to... and my bet that these people here in the thread can teach that attributes.

If you see women on the movies hinapakai ug sticks because it's cool - that's good thing because the interest is there. But you have to look or find that desire to learn what our forefathers had been using against the spaniards, japanese and americans during the early wars. Few ladys that I know who have interests in FMA... I hope you will see what the guys see in FMA.

As for the guys grunting... kalibangon tingali. Bitaw Zahara, don't look those guys that grunts more and less action, look for the guys that can be of good impression to you.... parehas ni pauwiks, Bdog, Freeflyer... and the rest... I'm sure dili na sila hilig ug grunting. Good luck on your training.

Daghan nakug martial arts style nga nakat-unan pero waman noon mo loose ako weight..i'm still 210 lbs. I do my taichi, arnis and kick boxing everyday mahuman ko ug pratice 1 hr kapin. and sa hapon mag duwa pa gyud ko ug badminton or basketball..Pero waman gyapon ko mo loose ug weight. Wala man gud ko discipline sa akung body. I eat a lot. pero dili ko tambuk ha...I think to loose weight dapat na a gyud kay discipline sa imong ka ugalingun kay if wala bisag nag body building paka d gyud ka mo gamay. Ang naka nindut lang kung FMA ang imong himo-un nga excercise at least duha ang imong ma kuha to loose weight at the same time self defense. Pero if dili ma loose imo weight at least na a pa ang self defense...

Zahara if makakita ka sa mga moves nila ni pauwiks and sinyalan im sure maganahan gyud ka...

hehehehe.. ako sad tyan molabaw na..anyway, problema na na sa magtan-aw. seriously, martial arts, is primarily directed to ones innerself.. kanang outward benefits are a bonus... most accomplished martial artists i know are really good and amiable persons in real life.. mga way libog. pareho ani ato mga lolo... este seniors ani nga blog... hahahaha joke lang ha. thay are really down to earth persons. ako ni silang mga idol..

by the way, combat sport athletes of the Philippines once again prove that we filipinos are fighters.. they got the bulk of our medals sa Asiad...
