Try to check this article daw bai basin maka tabang nimo VirtualBox’s Little Secret: The Command Line | Linux Magazine
If not I suggest the following.
1. check your box for any scripts or review the cron config.. maybe naay script gibuhat and admin sauna para anah then na overwrite lng so make sure you check any .bak files if there's any.
2. read Virtualbox's configuration manual maybe naay chapter nga discuss ni nga topic

bai, i believe these "AQUARIUS CENTAURUS harddisks" are directories; did you check if naay sulod nga files?
If yes, try to follow the instructions posted on the link I gave you last time and attached those virtual disks to you VM.
Since wa ko idea kung unsay gipang install/uninstall sa inyong box, try to double check daw if you have VirtualBox installed on the server.. the following command should give you the version installed on the system.
root@virtualbox1:~# VBoxManage --version
Kung for some reason, "VBoxManage" is missing try to issue the following command.
root@virtualbox1:~# apt-get update && apt-get install virtualbox-ose

Bossing Sk!p..how to mount external drive or USB to Virtualbox?..
root@virtualbox1:/home/virtualbox# ??...
can you insert the USB/external drive then type --> fdisk -l
paste the results here.
Btw, I strongly suggest to have a different user other than root and use it to be safe.
In this way, you will not screw the system in case you done something terrible wrong.
Use only root access if its necessary.
