building on what luthienne shared, here are some info related to the word nekkid.

"nekkid" is considered internet slang. i guess it hasn't yet found its way to the dictionary as it's a neologism (newly-coined term). neologisms stay in some kind of "waiting room" until proven to be widely-used.

slang terms rank third in what's considered "appropriate" words:
    1. standard terms
    2. informal terms
    3. slang terms

at present, "nekkid" may mean "naked" (a variation in spelling only) to "naked and naughty".

The term "neologism" was itself coined around 1800; so for some time in the early 19th Century, the word "neologism" was itself a neologism.

    neologism (nee-ol-uh-jiz-uhm)
    -Noun
    1. a new word, meaning, usage, or phrase.
    2. the introduction or use of new words or new senses of existing words.
    3. a new doctrine, esp. a new interpretation of sacred writings.
    4. Psychiatry. a new word, often consisting of a combination of other words, that is understood only by the speaker: occurring most often in the speech of schizophrenics.

verb form --> neologize (synonym: to coin)

I especially like definition #4. I've had some eye-witness accounts of schizophrenic patients using neologisms. oh well, schizos are not much different from "normal" people really. you think somebody here in istorya is being senseless and unreasonable? brush it aside...blame it on his/her borderline schizoid personality.

    SCHIZOID vs. SCHIZOPHRENIA

after comparing the definitions of the two, i came up with the following:

schizoid - a personality disorder (marked by extreme shyness, reclusiveness, inability to form close relationships, etc.)
schizophrenia - a severe mental disorder (characterized by emotional blunting, intellectual deterioration, disorganized behavior, etc.)

*still, informally, we can use the term "schizoid" to refer to schizophrenia or multiple personality. but this is not used scientifically.

Now the terms can be used outside the areas of pyschology and psychiatry coz we have a second definition:

schizophrenia (noun) - A situation or condition that results from the coexistence of disparate or antagonistic qualities, identities, or activities: the national schizophrenia that results from carrying out an unpopular war.

schizoid (informal, adjective) - Relating to or characterized by the coexistence of disparate or antagonistic elements: This schizoid town is part resort, part sardine cannery.

*I guess some couples can relate to the poem "The Schizophrenia of Their Marriage" which, by the way, I still have to compose. Dedicated ni nako nila daan.

i discovered a good online etymology dictionary. check Online Etymology Dictionary it is not so expansive but it's a good start. Dictionary and Thesaurus - Merriam-Webster Online also features a "word for the day" which includes the etymology of the word.
