the electricity consumption depends on the type of pump nga gi gamit. All closed-systems (meaning water recirculates) require pump gyud. Most literature on the matter suggests grav fed systems to be more efficient / effective hence the lesser need for bigger pumps.
Normally, grav fed systems have the pump at the last stage of the filtration system. Advantage of this is that pond debris is drawn gently through the bottom drain instead of sucked through the pump impeller. In short, grav fed makes life easier for the pump and allows the filter to trap pond debris without breaking up the fish poo.
The system above uses 2xbottom drains with a dome cover with a 1/2" gap. large koi wont be able to fit...for very small koi, the worst thing is that they could end up trapped in the 4" pipe or the vortex. This is better than having them sucked through a pump fed impeller and cause a clog.
Sa akong nabasa, daghan sad ga gamit ug vortex mainly because of easy maintenance (no more washing filter brushes) and efficient sad sya in removing solids from the water along with frequent flushing sa systen.

i guess gravity kay dako kaayo imong pond.
