    about being hyped hell..media..we can't deny it..flash elorde/ pancho villa have somewhat comparable achievement but at that time TV sets are for the higher class..no ppv.. and we were not yet goin gonzo on communications..(hehe morse code pa to sauna)thus they don't stop when the latter fights..heheh...

    i was there..hehe lolo na ko ninyo..

    and i think someone said pakyaw is not the best boxer now or of all time..thats true..
    the consider best boxer of all time is sugar ray robinson..and and ring mag has floyd mayweather as the best today..
    elorde is not as exciting as the pacman. i consider him overrated and overhyped. my father used to tell me stories about him which were half true (my father got it from mygrandpa). there were even stories that in his fights in the us, boxing fans are walking out of the arena during the fight just like what happened to mayweather-baldomir fight. pancho villa has the potiential but he died too young.
    pacman is still very young. at age 27, he we've still may have not seen the best of pacman he's improving in everyfight thats why boxing fans have predictions of him having an all time great status if he continues to impress the fans. mayweather may be the 1 pound for pound boxer for some boxing bodies but its very arguable because of his roy jones like cherrypicking of his opponents. he may have the best talent but he never dared to be great like pacman.

If we should use the word "best" on Leah, then, she sure is the best. But then again, broadway is hard to understand for most filipinos, it's intricate musical arrangements is hard for the average filipino to comprehend. And on that reason, that's why Leah's success wasn't that a big hype here in our country. Boxing on the other hand is damn simple, as i stated, just simply beat the heck out of your oppenent. And filipinos are truly in illusion claiming that Manny is THE best, Manny still hasn't scratched the surface of the boxing greats. And filipinos still doesnt understand the word "sportsmanship", they are still biased when it comes to sports.
    that's a great achievement by lea salonga but it would have been bigger if she won a major grammy or an oscar award coz she'll surely have a hero's welcome back home. people in carlos santana's hometown built a statue of him when he won the grammy. the same could have happened here in our country if somebody will win a major grammy award.

    ... again, proof that filipinos don't know what they're talking about. franklin, in our world today there are three dominating arts.. MUSIC, FILM, BROADWAY... each of them have their own prestigious awards.

    MUSIC = GRAMMY.

    FILM/ACTING = OSCAR.

    BROADWAY = TONY.

    .. and leah's craft was broadway. And she won the Tony.

    .. this woman's blog statement is not about Manny but how short-sighted filipinos are. That the people can be easily manipulated by media. One example was the late great FPJ.

    I agree with franklin. Broadway isn't as exposed as music or movies. If Filipinos were more exposed to her work, maybe she would get the recognition she deserves. But Brodaway isn't as mainstream music or movies or even sports.

    I like the idea of recognizing achievements. Like the Hollywood walk of fame, famous personalities get their stars on the sidewalk. But a statue? I don't think so, I thought we only built statues for dead heroes like rizal. Putting up a monument for pacman is I think a bit too much.

    Were you able to prove that the stories were half-true? The Flash was and is still considered the best Filipino boxer. The hype and publicity that the pacman is receiving right now was not available to the Flash back then. Communications technology were very limited, international fights were not shown live if it were even shown at all.

    there were even stories that in his fights in the us, boxing fans are walking out of the arena during the fight just like what happened to mayweather-baldomir fight.
    You got your facts wrong. First, it was a fight here in the Philippines. Secondly, the fans didn't walk-out. People were expecting a long fight, so most of the audience delayed their arrival to the arena, but The Flash knocked the opponent out on the 2nd or 3rd round which almost caused a riot since people started clamoring for a refund of their tickets.

    .. in other words. Pacman is OVER-HYPED.

    .. and pnoize is right, The Flash didn't have the luxury of technology in his time. Filipino's are short-sighted. They only support winners, once a certain person, whatever craft they have, goes down. Filipinos will then shun them out. But then again, people believe what the media is telling them.

    ako admit jud ko nga no.1 fan ko ni pacman. but putting his statue on the baywalk is no for me. its for a dead heroes as what kolz have said. but instead, they should put pacman's statue infront of the biggest/most popular boxing gym in the philippines or the likes.

    I agree with the lady blogger. it's too early for "statues" and "hero-tags" on Pacman. why don't we wait until his book has finally been written. let's wait until we see the whole body of work. what if Pacman for some reason does a "mike tyson - rape scandal"? do we tear down that "statue" right there and then? let's not make hasty decisions here, let's wait for the most opportune time.. and THAT TIME isn't NOW..

    let's all hold our horses for just a second and analyze what has been said here so far:

    erwin_rommel:

    "the pacman has achieved greatness in a very popular sport and its very possible that he will achieve an all time great status that boxers like muhammad ali, joe louis, sugar ray leonard, iron mike, lennox lewis has achieved."

    "i think the pacman is only the only true filipino that has achieved a superstar status in the world."

    I'm a big Pacman fanatic here, don't get me wrong. I've watched all his fights from the last couple of years on PPV. I've watched some of his fights held in Mandaue Sports Complex and Cebu Coliseum during his earlier years. let's get that out of the way so you won't misconstrue me as a Pacman hater.

    putting Pacman on the same sentence with the likes of Ali, Joe Louis and Sugar Ray is somewhat half-baked and ill-advised. let's come back to earth and use some common sense here.

    "superstar status in the world"? the Philippines and Mexico isn't exactly the "WORLD". some Americans, like the HBO analysts knows a lot about Pacman, some American sports bettors knows about him but those 3 countries mentioned isn't exactly the "WORLD". and to tell you honestly, Mexicans born in the US doesn't really give a rats-arse about boxing. ask them about soccer, ask them about American Football and I'll tell you, they know more about those sports mentioned than "BOXING".
    Shut Up! Let your GAME do the talking!
