So prove it. Show me who are the vigilantes, who their victims are, when and where it took place. Oh, but then then you DON'T know who's killing whom, right? You're just assuming that the vigilantes kill only criminals, but you have ZERO proof of that. That's an idiotic way of doing things. I don't make any such assumptions. It doesn't matter to me who is doing the killing because ALL these killings are wrong. I don't have to justify any of them. But since you claim the vigilantes are doing good, you have to prove the vigilantes are really killing only the so-called "chronic criminals". And you have FAILED to do so. Miserably too.

No. That is quite wrong. Because of the vigilante killings, the rate of major crimes in Cebu (especially MURDERS) went WAY UP! 176 UNSOLVED MURDERS does not bring down the crime rate.

And majority of the victims of vigilante-type killings have criminal records.

A criminal record is for a PAST crime. That does not make a person a wanted criminal NOW. And don't forget the innocent bystanders (three of them females) who were injured and the tombstone maker who had no criminal record at all.

Police authorities today allayed apprehensions of a return to vigilantism specially among victims of heinous crime who seek the capital punishment for convicted criminals.

PNP Chief, Director General Arturo C Lomibao assured that the police will not allow vigilantism as a form of retribution against criminal offenders.

"Crime is not solved by committing another crime. Justice is always on the righteous side," Lomibao said even as he warned those who wish to "take the law into their own hands" from taking unlawful actions against suspected criminals.

"Such judicial shortcuts will only lead us back to the discarded 'wild, wild west' days where justice comes from the barrel of the gun, often weighing heavily against the weak than the strong." he said.

The PNP maintains that it "will continue to enforce the law, arrest and help prosecute criminals in order that they may be permanently locked up in jail and forever prevented from committing crimes against society."

"We appeal to the public, especially the victims of heinous crime, to remain confident and trustful of the criminal justice system and the rule of law. There is no place for vigilantism in any civilized and ordered society," the PNP Chief said.

"The police under my leadership will remain steadfast in its bounden duty to seek out and arrest criminals. Our aim of separating dangerous elements from the rest of society never wanes but will be carried without let up," Lomibao said.

For his part, PNP Spokesman, Senior Superintendent Samuel D Pagdilao Jr. explained that the executive clemency granted by the president to convicts meted the death sentence is a prerogative that falls within the powers the Office of the President under our Constitution.

The Death Penalty Law remains in effect, in fact, four more kidnappers were convinced by a Manila court last Monday to suffer the penalty of death for their crime.
