That's a given. You need to be fluent in English so that you can communicate with your customers. Perhaps your accent may not be highlighted if you're assigned to a chat support LOB however, companies would still require you to communicate effectively in English.
You don't need to have an American accent (Stop using the word "slang" as a substitute for accent. The word "slang" is actually the use of informal words and expressions that are not considered standard in the speaker's dialect or language but are considered more acceptable when used socially. An example of slang is "gay talk".) to work in a call center. Agents don't generally pretend to located in the US when their accents clearly betray them. If you can minimize your first language influence, it'd be a plus.
I guess what I'm saying is: practice, practice, practice. You don't need to be a Jedi Master of the English language to get hired. Most applicants don't get hired not just because of their lack of language skills, but they also lack confidence during the interviews. You can kiss your chances goodbye if you stutter heavily or appear intimidated.
