    Sir, I don't really follow that news about mining a lot since mining is not common here sa cebu. Forgive my ignorant. AFAIK It is not mining itself that causes the environmental damage, it's what miners (chemicals) use that's damaging the environment.

    Chemical wastes aside, just the simple act of clearing large patches of forest and digging up the earth causes so much damage already. Have you seen a pit mine?

    No, that's not in Palawan, but that's an example of how a copper pit mine looks like. I'm probably just being over-dramatic because I doubt they'll be mining at such a large scale, but even at a smaller scale you can see how this would be bad.

    Wait.. Wait.. You mean that is how it will look like? What I have in mind about mining is making a hole (probably large enough for a 10-wheeler truck to fit in) underground, I never thought it will look like that.
