Hi, for this month, I have negative gains. But overall, I still have good gains this year. My outlook for the year is good. Are you investing yourself?

yes. im also hooked to it. its been two yrs now and has gained some. but i still have stocks now that are way below my purchase price like NI and PAX. grrr....just waiting for it to pick-up a little to sell and reinvest on others. small gains okay na rin. im our already on LC. i"ll wait for other to pick-up their curve

The market is currently fearful! If you are a newbie, be careful jumping right in. Stocks are indeed on sale but this can go on for a couple more weeks I think before the fear subsides. Maybe much longer. No on knows. I've sold all my stocks since last Friday. Right now, I'm waiting in the sidelines until all the panic is gone. Then I'll slowly pick up value stocks battered by the market.

For those who haven't started investing in stocks yet, you are just in time to buy into a depressed market. This is the perfect time to slowly accumulate stocks. It's a buyer's market.

Absolutely. If your time horizon for your investment is long term like several years, then mutual funds would be perfect for you. Mutual funds have different styles by the way depending on how risk averse you are. So a MF can be more on stocks and less on fixed income securities. Or the other way around.

If you want to handle your investment directly then that's when you can open a trading account and go with stocks. Stock investing may not be for everyone. You can potentially gain more by trading directly in stocks if you have a good trading system. But you can also lose more if you are careless. That's why for many people MF works better and actually can earn better if compared to typical earnings of the average stock investor even accounting for the management fees.

If you don't want to go for the trouble of managing money yourself, then MF is an excellent alternative. Hope that helps.
