I don't condone what Byron did coz he overreacted for sure. But I am very surprised and troubled that no one has thought of this incident as I do. The American had no right to block the road no matter what he says. And he was also most probably very abrasive, self-righteous and insulting when talking to Byron. We might have our own political beliefs and some people may love Byron and some may hate him. But one huge reason why the Philippines is still a poor third world country is because we Filipinos let foreigners step all over us even in our own land. It has happened millions of times and is still happening everyday. While Byron may have overreacted and even if I don't like him, I laud him and respect him for fighting for the rights of us Filipinos. If all of us will just set politics aside for the common good and stand up to abusive foreigners like Byron did, we can be sure our country would be a better place to live in.

Sure keep blaming the foreigners... I think some people just plain don't wanna face reality.

He didn't block the road, he placed barriers to slow down traffic for safety with the approval of the developer. Just because he's American doesn't mean he's self-righteous and insulting.

Locals and foreigners have the same rights to protection from power mad government officials. Anyway, I hear the NBI is now on this case because it looks like someone was carrying firearms without a permit

Placing barriers can be construed as blocking the road. Did the developer have the authority to allow the placing of the barriers or has the running of the subdivision been already turned over to the homeowner's association? If the American was allowed to place barriers in front of his house, does that mean that every homeowner in that subdivision could do the same? Wouldn't everyone want to slow down traffic in front of his house? Wouldn't most houses in that subdivision be exposed to cars running at similar speeds? Why does this American need or want to have special treatment by having barriers in front of his house?

As I said, Byron's reaction may have been way overboard, and is not something I condone at all, but I still admire him for standing up for our rights in our own country. Let the NBI investigate him. At least that American now knows he can't be treated special in this country because he is a foreigner. What rules apply to the rest of us Filipinos also apply to him.

If the developer approved it, there might be a good reason. You'd have to see the road before you can draw conclusions like that. Some stretches of road are more prone to speeding than others. All you're doing is making sweeping generalizations and jumping to conclusions based on your bias against Americans which is obvious from your first post.

You can't both admire and not condone something. You gotta make up your mind.

Bring a high powered rifle is the part I don't condone. Standing up to foreigners who try to abuse us in our own country is the part I admire. And am not biased against Americans or any foreigners all all. Have tons of friends of different nationalities from all over the world. Everywhere we travel, we live by the laws and practices of the places we visit. Foreigners who live here should blend in and not try to call attention on themselves by asking for special treatment. Maybe the more prudent thing to do would have been not to allow his young daughter outside his gate to prevent her from being run over if there are speeding cars outside. So many of us Pinoys live under this condition with cars speeding outside our homes. Do we ask for barriers to be put outside our gates or do we simply not allow our children to go out? Simple solution to a simple problem.....
