Its all about noynoy! Im always here to support noynoy..until the last drop of my blood.

Benigno Simeon “Noynoy” C. Aquino III has always viewed politics as a necessary vehicle for change, a perspective he formed early in life through the examples set by both of his parents.

In 1998, he ran for a seat in the House of Representatives and won. He would serve as Congressman of the 2nd District of Tarlac until 2007.

In his nine years at the Lower House, Noynoy focused on the fiscalizing role of a legislator. He felt that there were already too many laws, and good ones at that, but they seemingly lacked proper implementation. He concentrated on crafting laws that would help create opportunity rather than impose additional burdens to those who are already disadvantaged. He actively took part in budget deliberations to ensure that government initiatives do address the plight of the people who need help the most.

His commitment to continue the legacy of his parents was evident in his performance. In November 2004, he became Deputy House Speaker of Luzon, but he relinquished the post when he joined leaders of the Liberal Party (LP) in calling for the resignation of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo at the height of the “Hello Garci” scandal. To him, it was easier to give up the position than abandon his duty to hold accountable those who do wrong.

In May 2007, he ran for Senator and won, placing 6th in the national elections. He chairs the Senate Committee on Local Government, and is also the vice-chairperson of the Committee on Justice and Human Rights. He had been determined to ensure that his key legislative initiatives would bear fruit and to see them through until the end of his term.

However, fate had other plans for him. The passing of his mother, former President Cory Aquino, stirred a long-dormant yearning for good leadership. Filipinos from all walks of life, here and abroad, began to look at Noynoy as the new hope for a better Philippines. The groundswell calling for him to run for President became too loud to ignore, and eventually overcame his reluctance.

In his letter from prison many years ago, Ninoy said to Noynoy, “Son, the ball is now in your hands.”

Today, the people want the future back into their own hands and Noynoy will not let them down.

His critics say he merely trades on his good name and skeptics consider him a lightweight. Rivals accuse him of wrongdoing despite a clearly unblemished record. Noynoy’s detractors have been busy trying to bring him down, but their efforts have only allowed him to improve his popularity.

Noynoy is an economist by education, a lawmaker by vocation. He is an audiophile, history buff, marksman and self-taught billiards sharpie. He is a loving brother and uncle, and a steadfast friend. He is also destined to be the one to finally lead our country towards a brighter future.

“There is no greater nation than our Motherland. No greater people than our own. Serve them with all your heart, with all your might and with all your strength.” – Ninoy Aquino in a letter to his only son Noynoy.

Graft raps filed against Angara, 6 others

Architect Felino Palafox Jr. on Tuesday filed a graft complaint with the Office of the Ombudsman against Sen. Edgardo Angara and his son Aurora Rep. Juan Edgardo Angara, his sister Aurora Gov. Bellaflor Angara-Castillo and four other members of the Aurora Pacific Ecozone and Freeport (Apeco) in connection with the development of Apeco two years ago. Palafox said the respondents implemented the project despite warnings that the site was prone to flooding and soil liquefaction. “With the knowledge of his co-respondents, [Angara] explicitly justified the fast-tracking of the plans to justify the approval of the budget, which was then being deliberated before the Senate. When the engineering surveys conducted by the complainant turned out that some portions of the land covered by the project were prone to flooding and liquefaction, complainant recommended that the design should consider a 100-year historical pattern of flooding,” said Palafox in his five-page complaint. He said the respondents ignored his warnings and recommendations. (Zaff Solmerin)

Aquino’s trips seen boosting investor interest

INVESTMENT prospects arising from President Benigno S. C. Aquino III’s foreign travels were highlighted yesterday, with Malacañang pointing to commitments from an ongoing US visit and a Japanese envoy noting opportunities in next week’s trip to Tokyo.

Three food and beverage firms, including soft drink giant Pepsi Corp. (PepsiCo), have indicated their interest in sourcing coconut water from the Philippines, Sec. Ramon A. Carandang of the Presidential Communications and Strategic Planning Office said in a statement.

PepsiCo did not throw out any numbers during a courtesy call, Mr. Carandang said, but is “serious” in its plans to expand its coconut harvesting operations in the Philippines because of the “huge potential.”

Pepsi Cola Products Philippines, Inc. President Partha Chakrabarti affirmed that plans were underway.

“I can confirm that there is a joint venture already happening. We’re looking at sourcing coconut from the Philippines and selling it in America,” Mr. Chakrabarti told BusinessWorld in a phone interview.

PepsiCo currently has partnership with California-based One Natural Experience, which last year announced it would produce coconut water in the country to be distributed in the US market.

Two other firms -- Vita Coco and Fiesta Coco Equity -- also met with the Mr. Aquino in New York. The Palace said they indicated that they would directly contribute to developing the country’s young coconut crop.

Vita Coco co-founder and CEO Michael Kirben and Fiesta Coco President Romeo Chan pledged to invest $15 million over the next four years.

Malacañang said two outsourcing firms also expressed interest in further developing their investments in the Philippines.

EXL Services Executive Vice-President Bill Bloom said his company had chosen the Philippines as one of its “model centers” for higher-end contact services

Convergys Corporation President and CEO Jeffrey Fox indicated that his company would continue investing in the Philippines in the long term.

    Tokyo trip next week
Meanwhile, Tokyo’s representative said partnership opportunities would be explored when Mr. Aquino visits Japan next week.

The three-day visit, which starts on Sunday, will also be Mr. Aquino’s introduction to Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda, a former finance minister who was voted into the top parliamentary post last month, Japanese Ambassador Toshinao Urabe told reporters.

“There are three main points to make about this visit. First, Japan places importance in this relationship with the Philippines. Second, this relationship has gone on because of the complementary characters of our countries. Third, both countries must continue working on its strategic partnership... since Japan is also in a financial crisis with the appreciating yen and the effects of the disaster has affected our economy,” Mr. Urabe said.

“The Philippines has been a real help to Japan. In this visit, President Aquino can confirm how the rehabilitation has taken place and find out how this can affect the Philippine economy,” he added.

Mr. Urabe reiterated plans by several Japanese firms to relocate or expand abroad to manage disaster risks. He also said that businesses were heading out in a bid to sustain profits hit by a strong yen.

“The strategic partnership between Japan and the Philippines can be used by attracting Japanese businesses looking to move outside. They have profit margins to keep, which they can do by investing in countries where costs are cheaper,” he explained.

The Philippines, however, might not be a choice destination.

“According to a report, it seems like more... are moving to Vietnam and Indonesia, but there are some moving to the Philippines,” he said.

“Japanese businesses have moved to the Philippines because they see its economic potential ... But it is no secret why foreign investments here remain low... the infrastructure, traffic jams, and power costs,” he added. -- J. D. Poblete and E. J.

IMF lowers economic growth forecast to 4.7%

The International Monetary Fund, citing the slowing global economic activities, on Tuesday cut its gross domestic product growth forecast for the Philippines this year and the next, but said inflation outlook will be more favorable.

The Philippines’ gross domestic product is now seen to expand 4.7 percent in 2011, slower than the previous forecast of 5.0 percent made in April, and the actual expansion of 7.6 percent in 2010. Growth in 2012 is projected to come in at 4.9 percent, also slower than the previously anticipated 5.0 percent, according to the IMF’s World Economic Outlook Update.

The government’s National Statistical Coordination Board earlier announced that GDP growth slowed to 4.0 percent in the first half of 2011, amid subdued government spending and deceleration in exports. The growth was way below the government’s aspirational growth target of 7 to 8 percent for the year.

The IMF said emerging Asian countries such as the Philippines would do well to support domestic demand to offset whatever slowdown in global trade is in store. “For emerging Asia, although the slowdown in the United States and euro area will dampen external demand, domestic demand is expected to continue supporting growth,” it said.

Near-term growth in the five major economies of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations is projected to average 5.5 percent, supported by domestic demand and robust investment, which will offset the slowdown in export momentum.

“Headline inflation in Asia is projected to average 5.25 percent in 2011, before receding to 4 percent in 2012, assuming commodity prices remain stable,” the IMF said.

Inflation rate in the Philippines, which averaged 3.8 percent in 2010, is forecast to average 4.5 percent in 2011 and 4.1 percent in 2012. These projections are better than the previous estimates of 4.9 percent for 2011 and 4.3 percent in 2012.

Current account surplus, representing 4.2 percent of GDP in 2010, is projected to narrow to 1.7 percent in 2011 and 1.3 percent in 2012. These projections were also lowered from 2.9 percent in 2011 and 2.8 percent in 2012.

Unemployment rate is predicted to stay at 7.2 percent in 2011 and 2012.

“The global economy is in a dangerous new phase. Global activity has weakened and become more uneven, confidence has fallen sharply recently, and downside risks are growing,” the IMF said, in discussing the risks to global economic outlook this year.

Lacierda draws flak over transport strike tweets

President Benigno Aquino III's spokesman continued to fire away Tuesday at leftist groups that organized and supported a transport strike in Metro Manila and major cities Monday, calling them "onion-skinned" and their strike a "perjuicio" (inconvenience).

In his Twitter account, Edwin Lacierda needled the leftists for getting hotheaded when they were being criticized for Monday's strike.

"Noticed how leftists are so onion-skinned? Tinawag lang perjuicio ang strike, pumputok ang butchi nila! Mahilig bumanat pero mga pikon pala (You call the strike an inconvenience, they get mad. They like to criticize but when you criticize them, they get offended)!" he said.
Not surprising from the government that is run by student council officials shouting and name calling over teh interwebz.

so what? freedom of speech applies to all. that's a lot better than to water cannon them.

at least these student council officials know that a chief justice cannot appoint a vice president to be president, unlike you.
