Is there a way to verify MF's losses/mistakes?

@makie: are you also in the MF business? if yes, there is a conflict of interest. you're trying to make the MF as a surefire way of making money by getting investors; do you get a commission? management fee? service fee or whatever that's called?
In reality, people really don't care about how mutual fund companies invest their money. Whether the market is down or up, people care about the NAV, not on how and where these companies invest the money. That is why mutual funds is intended for long term because in the long run, the NAV will go up. Do people really care where the bank put their money when they deposit it as a time deposit until it matures? The same is true in mutual funds.

Just because we earn commissions through mutual funds doesn't mean that we're promoting it as a "sure fire" way of getting investors. Rather, we are just simply sharing the mutual fund concept to the people because of the potential that MFs bring. The commissions that most of us earn through MFs aren't that significant. Other than as a broker of MFs and having two MF accounts myself, I'm employed and I'm also into stock market trading, and my family is into real estate. I really don't need my "commissions" in MF to be honest.

I disagree. There are really people who do care. unlike banks that guarantee you a very low rate (you have the PDIC if the bank goes under), you do lose money in a MF if the market (in stocks, commodities, real estate, forex, bonds) tanks. That's why MF never guarantee you an exact figure. Then you become a "long term " investor. I know you trade in stocks, you should also know the term "ipit".

as for me, tan aw lang ko sa performance sa fund and if am comfortable with it, ok na. . . debatable kaayo ang issue about the term "value". How about the price of a certain stock, e.g. (LC, MA, PX, AAA, AAI, AB, ABC, etc) what about their prices, are they true reflection of what their values are? naa man uban dili motuo kay undervalued, or high ra ang value, naa pod uban, moingon nga market value is different from intrinsic value, and they have all reports disclosed, audited by external auditors, etc, etc, but at the end of the day, they hire accountants to do that job and as one forumer say, some companies make it appear as something even though it's not. . . nah, wala ko time motingkay pa sa mga discolsures, tan aw na lang ko sa YTD performance sa fund and that will be my benchmark in investing... When I invested on real estate, I didn't ask ngano mao na ila price per sq. meter, they could have bloated the price for sure. . . it's good to ask, but in real world, we can only rely on whatever information is available, either they are the truth or semi truth....

    my two cents. . .

    no offense taken bai.

IMG doesn't say MF is a "sure" investment.
Even our leaders who are RFPs will strongly remind us not to say that it is guaranteed investment.
And I for one will never say it is guaranteed kay akoy basulon if madown.
We always discuss it black and white over the appointment.
The pros and cons of MFs and stocks investing are given. And sila na modecide.

Sakto!, any investment vehicles don't have guarantees. Anyone who deals with you any guaranteed investment is not true. T_T!

MFs are ideal for people who either don't have the time, knowledge, and/or guts to trade/invest directly in the stock market. MFs invest in stocks, bonds, and other securities and most people find it reasonable enough. MFs can't also give a "fixed" list of what companies are they investing in because most likely, they are short trading as well.

And MFs are recommended for long term to avoid getting "ipit". If you doubt the credibility of MFs, maybe you should find a broker and trade/invest directly to the stock market.
