but try googling "the Treaty of Paris" coz there you can find your answers
and though it doesn't state or not mentioned Mindanao, during that said date, is not a part of the Philippines
but it says in the agreement where gi bayran ang espanya ug certain amount to turn over the territories in the belonging to the Philippine archipelago under their Spain's SOVEREIGN RULE.
And there try to figure out which is included under Spain's governace...apil ba ang Mindanao or have they estbalished a working government in Mindanao during that "purchase?

I also agree with the theory nga Spain is ok with it since they find it futile to desperately try to occupy and control Mindanao in vain so they let go of it nalang for a price.
Imagine the Bread Basket of the Philippines if makuha nila I dont think they would just turn it over

they may not control but only part of mindanao... yet they are part of the spanish domain in ASIA hence apil sya sa kontrata... ngita sad ko link nya sa ana...

also during those period there are no specific or standard means of charting territories
unit of measurement is not that unified as compared today
and there are far lesser and solid treaties before than today's ASEAN, EU or NATO or UN or unsa pa na

again an aged old debate... it has been resolved long ago.......................that's why Mindanao is part of the Philippines, and Muslims are our brothers, they may have refused Christianity during Spaniards rule but they are Filipinos none the less, they own the land they till and live in, just like we own ours by our rights.....the sparks of debate and legitimacy of obviously resolved claim.... fueled hatred for generations, and uncalled for sufferings.....look at taiwan, singgapore not all of them were muslims, nor christian but progressive... cause of there un backward mentality/attitude....
