Poll fraud operator apologizes to FPJ family
MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) - Former Shari’a Court Judge Nagamura Moner told ABS-CBN News how he handed out bribes from then First Gentleman Jose Miguel Arroyo to local officials and election officers in Mindanao to ensure then President Gloria Arroyo's victory in the 2004 polls.
Moner told correspondent Anthony Taberna it was former Philippine Ports Authority General Manager Alfonso G. Cusi who even delivered the money.
Moner had previously denied any involvement in the controversy.
He said his conscience got the better of him. He has this to say to Fernando Poe Jr.’s family: “To the family of FPJ, I’m sorry that I’m saying this only now. I know if I say this before they might have been a chance na hindi naging presidente si GMA…Madame Susan Roces..Madame Grace Llamanzares. Sorry.”
The bribe issue was raised during the recent Senate probe on the PNP choppers deal.
Senator Jinggoy Estrada cited the flight logs of two choppers that were used by the former First Gentleman to fly to Mindanao during and after the 2004 elections.
Estrada said the flight records, combined with affidavits of witnesses in the alleged poll cheating, showed the Arroyos had a hand in the election fraud.
‘Fairytale’
In separate interview with ANC, lawyer Inocencio Ferrer Jr. said, “we have here another case of a fairytale being pushed by this person to the press. It’s completely without basis and untrue.”
The former First Gentleman’s lawyer said he hopes the Supreme Court or even the Integrated Bar of the Philippines have listened to Moner’s allegations and proceed with a disbarment case against him.
“He has already admitted to a crime,” he noted. “But as far as my client is concerned, the allegations are not true.”
