Silliman Law Advances to National Moot Court Championship Finals
In a bid to defend its title, Silliman University advances into the championship round of the National Moot Court Competition on International Humanitarian Law (IHL), now ongoing at the en banc session hall of the Supreme Court.
Silliman was the national winner in last year's tournament, and represented the Philippines in the international IHL Moot Court in Hong Kong in March this year.
As of press time, the Silliman team for this year's final round, composed of Law sophomores Zara Marie Dy and Kenny Melody Hotingoy, faces off with the University of Cebu (UC).
This year's finalists from Silliman are joined throughout the tournament by alternate mooter Nathan Joseph Ramacho and observer Precious Adlyn Benigay. Coach is Law professor and Salonga Center for Law and Development Deputy Director Atty. Sheila Lynn Catacutan-Besario.
Hosted by the Ateneo de Manila University School of Law, and gathering 16 law schools in the country, the moot court tournament targets sharper understanding of international humanitarian law.
The winner will represent the Philippines in the regional category which will be held in Hong Kong in 2012.
This annual tournament is organized by the International Committee of the Red Cross, an organization that assists and protects victims of armed conflict and other violence, along with the Philippine Red Cross, Philippine Association of Law Schools and the Supreme Court.
(Note: This article will be updated once the championship round is decided on. As of this posting, oral arguments are being presented by Silliman and its competitor, UC.)
