the best language is the one you are comfortable with, no matter what language will that be!!, you can learn all, but you have to master one...

One factor you might want to consider is your personality.

For now, I find PHP as the best for my loose and 'want-output-right-away' personality.
Documentation is fairly easy to find, lots of forums available in case you come across issues.

It is my opinion Java is a strict language and needs a whole lot of scaffolding code.
For the lazier programmers, you are going to be pissed with Java if you are starting from scratch.
Unless you are well-versed with a framework or have a framework on your own, it can be hard.
People who are used to using mixed or Dim variables will miss it in Java.
Even if you use Object, you will still be doing a lot of type casting.
So even though I have been with Java the longest, it is not for me.

COBOL is a straight forward language and good for people capable of holding a lot of info
in their heads. The syntax is intricate and as they say "English-like". The variables are quite delicate,
which is why you have to keep better track of it. You won't see a lot of implied code in COBOL, when you read it even if you don't know it, you'll probably understand it.

with me PHP is best for design web because it's free for every one and easy for coding ^_^

for me the best programming language is dependent on what software or application i wish to develop. so you cant really just say you like java, php, c, etc.
