The peso continues to climb up at P49.69 now. Aside from this, the government reported P22B savings with the improved credit outlook and a stronger peso. This could be used to prioritize infrastructure projects.

A reduction in Toll Gate fee will be implemented this December 20 that will end until Christmas, for the motorists who are passing by NLEX. These special 10 % cut is a “preview” of the permanent toll reduction slated to take effect in January next year and which will be implemented for two consecutive years.

Surely, because of this reduction, many, most especially this Holiday season, would go visit their love ones staying in North.

The country earned around $200M in medical tourism this year which puts us in equal footing with other top players in the region. In as much as medical tourism help us gains international competitiveness, this has also generated jobs in the country.

Hopefully, this sector would continue growing to help our economy.

Cebu is still one of the best island-destinations in Asia.

For the third straight year, Cebu was voted and included in the top 10 island destinations in the Asia/Indian Ocean region by the prestigious Conde Nast's Traveler Magazine Readers' Choice Awards for 2006.

Although Cebu maintained its 8th place finish last year in the region, it scored higher this year - from last year's 69.5 points to 71.0 points this year.

Cebu ranked seventh when it first emerged in the elite top 10 list of the best island destinations in the region in 2004. But its ranking dropped a notch lower after it was overtaken by Lombok Island in Malaysia.

Last year's fourth placer is this year's number one island-destination in the region.

Maldives received 91.5 points, knocking off 2005 winner Phuket in Thailand, which slid to number three spot at 81.8 points. It also ranked number one in the world.

Traveler Magazine has described Maldives as a "Mecca for surfers and sun worshipers" which has a "beach for everybody, from crowded golden sands to tranquil havens where dolphins frolic."

Perennial favorite Bali in Indonesia overtook Phuket in the ranking to occupy the number two spot at 85.9 points. Langkawi in Malaysia and Koh Samui were fourth and fifth placers with scores at 80.1 and 78.1 respectively.

The rest of the top ten were Seychelles (sixth, with 77.8 points), Zanzibar (seventh, 71.6), Borneo (ninth, 63.2) and Mauritius (tenth, 62.7).

The Traveler Magazine has been conducting the Readers Choice Awards since 1998.

This year, 28,000 tourists participated in the survey and rated these destinations based on the activities, beaches, restaurants, lodging found on the islands as well as the friendliness of the residents.

The scores were "an index of satisfaction with travel facilities and services, scored out of a maximum of 100."

Some 350,000 questionnaires were sent out to Traveler Magazine subscribers where they were asked to rate their choices for the different categories. The final tabulation was conducted by Mediamark Research Inc. of New York City.

Traveler Magazine, considered as the world's best travel magazine, has a worldwide circulation of around 750,000 a month and 1.8 million hits on its website (http://www.concierge.com/cntraveler) monthly. Its readers have been described as the "most affluent, stylish and experienced travelers in the world."

Traveler Magazine is published by Conde Nast along with Allure, Brides, GQ, Vogue, Vanity Fair, Tattler and Wired.

This year's awards also named the best airlines, airports, cities, countries, cruise lines, hotels, spas, resorts and tour operators from the different regions of the world.

The other entries from the Philippines that figured in the list were the exclusive Amanpulo Resort in Palawan, which ranked 14th in the leisure hotels category in the Asia/Indian Ocean division with 86.27 points and the Peninsula Manila in the hotels category in the region with 93.7 points.

Shangri-La Mactan Island Resort and Spa ranked ninth last year in the resorts category in the Indian Ocean region. It did not make it to the top 10 this year.

But the resort was included in the magazine's Gold List of destinations for 2006 - the only entry from the Philippines.

The best city in Asia was still Bangkok in Thailand, which garnered 85.8 points. Included in the top were Hong Kong (second, 80.4 points), Chiang Mai, Thailand (third, 79.9), Singapore (fourth, 78.Cool and Kyoto in Japan (fifth, 77.7).

Cebu City, which was once adjudged one of the best cities in Asia in 1999 by the now defunct Asiaweek Magazine, did not figure in the list.

The cities were selected based on the following criteria - cleanliness, culture, architecture/aesthetics, visitor-friendliness, food/restaurants, nightlife and safety.

Rome in Italy was the best city in the world with 94.22 points followed by Barcelona in Spain at 93.67 points and Sydney in Australia at 93.17 points.

The best countries for tourists are Italy (95.57), New Zealand (94.81), and Australia (94.49). Two Southeast Asian countries made it to the list - Thailand, which ranked 7th at 91.07 points and Malaysia, 12th place with 86.36 points. Philippines was nowhere on the list.

Inflation goes down from 5.7% to 5.4% which is another record in the making. Also, forex reserves post another record high at $22.27B.

It seems our positive economic indicators keep on moving forward which is good for the benefit of our economy.

I salute the officers of NAIA for their great concerns not only to the clients or passengers but for their people as well. They recently ordered their employees not to accept gifts or tokens in any kind that will serve as an appreciation from the passengers, for this would imply negative feedback to the agency. They also asked the passengers as well to help the public servants jobs by not inserting currencies in all travel documents.

If all agencies will implement this kind of rules, then in no time no more corruption cases will occur.
