posting an opinion regarding a certain topic would surely cause dissent and opposition from others, perhaps thats the reason why debate would start.. so for me my very reason in engaging a debate is to defend my opinion/stand on the matter..

secondly, its nice to be informed about the others' thoughts on the matter..

the most beautiful part of it all, is its entertaining..

I think all the misunderstandings start on the very first flame post which sounds like relevant to the topic if you read at it but the meat is way beyond far fetched.

And by that, it kills the purpose of arguing in a debate.

i like debate cause i can learn from the other party and i can also express my thoughts... kay according pa sa isa ka philosopher " when u share or express ur thought or learning it is called knowledge otherwise it is nothing..."

Yup naka notice ko ani , I think it goes to show that people are different, but the hope is we all learn from it to be better people.

You bring up a good point, part of it I believe is culture , I have noticed when people get too frank with us , it seems we are challenged as opposed to understanding what is going on and talking about it.

It seems when someone questions us a red light opens and we end up feeling bad or are challenged.

but it is entertaining and yes its best to debate by understanding what is debated and pointing out your thoughts in a civil way.

Yes I've seen this quite a bit .... the question is why is this done, what are the motives , entertainment? Proving and thinking we are better? Post counts? or simply have no regard for fellow istoryans?

or kanang lalis nga nag yawyaw na verbally attacking each other's persona rather that the issue.

Good point, I think when going into a debate one should understand the topic, do a bit of research first, be original, weigh what you say before being Pro or Con.

there are cases nga nag start as a debate...REAL debate and not senseless nga lalis attacking each other with personal insults.

then naa musulod wala'y basa2x sa issue or topic or ni basa wala kasabot
then mag apil2x dayon malubog nalang then ma close ang thread or topic kay instead of reprimanding the one causing the conflict and the thread ma close
