At least, he did not shot himself in the head. I think he was quick to think not to do so unless he is Japanese.

Kung qualifications lang storyaan, dili popularity, pwerteng layo-a ra anang uban diha kang Koko oi. Consistent honor student na siya, cum laude, topnotcher pa sa Bar Exam.

While I agree that you need to be popular to win, people seem to forget that legislation is about making laws. Who better to do that than someone who in fact knows his law? Unsaon mana ang pagkasikat sa sulod sa Congress? Pa-gwapohay sila didto? It should not be given a higher premium than the actual qualifications a candidate has.

The fact that the likes of Bongrevilla (who changed his name just so it can be found at the top of the ballot!), Lito Lapid, and Tito Sotto always win convincingly vs the more qualified candidates (they're on their 2nd terms, and they were never in the tail-end of the race each time) only shows how immature the electorate is in our country, and that's sad.

I agree that Zubiri is really a crafty campaigner/political strategist. Looking like he was fresh out of the Aga Muhlach School of Drama, he put on that emotional farewell speech and the media bit hook line and sinker, giving him the exposure and the sympathy he will be needing leading up to the 2013 elections. Mura na dayon siyag wa nanikas. "Dapat siya tularan ng iba." Are you kidding me? Tularan, as in cheat and feign ignorance, then resign when the people involved in the fraud are now coming out and with only a year left on the term?

Pero mao sad lagi, "maayo" (compared to some Congress bums) sad iya performance while he was there so he deserves the benefit of the doubt kunohay, although that doesn't change the fact he benefited from the cheating.

Ang haba naman ng speech. Some may consider this gentlemanly and honorable act, but if this happened in developed countries, the resignation speech would sound like this:

"Ladies and gentlemen, my countrymen, in the interest of sparing my family from this unsavory affair, I resign my post as Senator. And btw, to my detractors, **** ***."

I think sakto man ang gibuhat ni zubiri nga mo resign. If ako c zubiri huwaton paba naku nga naay mangasakit or atakihon sa kasing kasing sa akong family. Murag selfish act kaayo kung nipadayon siya. Zubiri is an intelligent person, nakita niya na affected na iyang family thats why ni resign dayon sya. For sure the biggest reason behind this all is his family rajud. Nganu ipagpalit jud niya ang health ug security sa iya family over sa iya position. Wala nana mahangol c zubiri sa position ui, kadato na ana niya. All he wants is a purely public service lang jud. Salute to Migz Zubiri...

bro let me object to what you said here. Yes he did benefit from the cheating. but we seem to overlooked at the most critical things here, he won big time sa Maguindanao, where GMA also had a landslide victory. Remember he was part of the administration when he ran last election. He may have benefited from it but that doesn't mean it was him who asked anyone to cheat and make sure he wins.

As I remember during the campaign period Miguel Zubiri opted to do a personal touch to his campaign and decided not to join the rest of the group in the administration initiated tours all through out the country. With this said, plans were laid out to manipulate the results. Of course, as part of the plan of the administration to place as much of their candidates in office they have to make sure Zubiri would make it to the list.

And Im sure he is not the only candidate of the administration who benefited from this decision. If he was that selfish to claim his title even knowing the deceit and cheating behind his win, then he would be just like the rest of those clowns in senate. But no!! He stepped down acknowledging the mistake that was done and he has no plans of hogging something which is not his.

If he runs next election (which Im sure he will) at least with that he starts in a clean slate, and not have to feel guilty of anything because of a doubt which obviously the whole nation is pinning on him.

    I understand your sentiments. But...

First of all, he cannot say he did not know that there was cheating in Maguindanao. Believe me, even before Lintang Bedol and Zaldy Ampatuan broke the news to the media recently I've already heard of the cheating in Maguindanao because I was classmates with one of the Ampatuan kids back in 2009 (and ironically, our prof then was the very rival of Zubiri, Koko!).

Even if he "did not want anyone to cheat for him", the fact remains that he has been occupying that Senate seat since 2007, and only now decided to give it up. Noble you say, but why just now, when key figures in the fraud are now willing to testify? It looks more like he wants to beat SET to the punch and would rather resign than be booted out after it's proven that he did in fact benefit from the election fraud and knew of it at that time. He did not hog the seat, but he's leaving only one year and change on the term for Koko. And no he did not directly acknowledge in his speech that he did in fact (at the very least) benefit from the cheating. More like collateral acknowledgement.

For sure, if and when he runs again he will win. He already had the chance to build up his resume during his Senate stint, and he did in fact do a good job. The only problem I have is that while he did resign, nagpa-humot ra gyud gihapon siya. He did not come clean and instead imputed the decision to his family, etc. Easy escape ra ba.
