well, for me, i think it first started out of desperation to get something. Maybe they were really poor and have nothing to eat. Someone, a friend perhaps, told them about this kind of set up. Probably, at first, they only show sexy pics, then to nude ones for some dollars.

Some prostitutes do it coz its the "easiest" - easy/quick money.

another cause would probably be the popularity of s.ex/porn related stuff.

In Maslow's hierarchy of needs, S.EX is part of the basic needs -- along with food, shelter, water, clothing, etc.
