Bro I suggest you get a Digital to Analog Converter(DAC) and a headphone amplifier if you are aiming for audiophile quality. Not a soundcard. Let me know if you need to go deeper, I might be able to help. Fellow purist here.![]()
wow i want to buy a asus sonar DG...
I have installed my Xonar Essence ST and unfortunately, I am not too impressed. My old Audigy Platinum sounds better. In my own listening evaluation, it lacks details on the mids and highs while the bass is a little too much. My box came with an op-amp upgrade kit with two LME49720NA chips. I will replace the stock op-amps and see how it goes. I also already ordered two LME49860NA chips as I have read that they provide a more balanced sound. If I am not satisfied with any of these, I'll go for Burson HD Op-Amps...![]()
This leads me to believe that the Xonar is just over rated, no offense to the owners.
Perhaps the default sound signature doesn't fit my ears. Sound evaluation is very subjective. So far I have used my Monster Turbine Copper-In Ear headphones, my son's Audio Technica ATH-M50s, and I also tried using an Etymotic HF3. The bass is also a little too soft for my taste. I guess I'll have to try different op-amps and find one that suits me. Once I am satisfied with how it sounds like, I'll get a good set of headphones.

planning to upgrade asus would be best.......
Bro what headphone are you using? The problem with soundcards are that they tend to be underpowered to get best out of your headphones. Its not the best route for an "Audiophile" setup IMO.
As stated above, I currently have a Monster Turbine Pro Copper, Audio Technica ATH-M50s, and an Etymotic Research hf3. I will be trying out my cousin's Shure SRH-840 also.
The Xonar has a built-in Headphone Amp. I do not consider myself an Audiophile but I know how to appreciate a good sounding setup. I want to keep it clean and simple. Having external DAC's+Amp will only add clutter to my already cluttered desk. ^_^
I will eventually get myself a Sennheiser HD650 or HD800 when I have saved up enough moolah. ^_^
