Windows 7 if you have a beefy computer, make sure it is 64bit if you have more than 3GB of RAM.

Since you're probably going to be gaming I'd suggest Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit. Noone needs the extra features of Ultimate. All you need is DirectX 11...

i'm using win7 ultimate...just check your PC's specs if it's compatible to upgrade to win 7, but if it's not then win xp is a good option..

Explanation diay: Why Windows? The majority of the best games are Windows based.

Why 7 and not XP? 7 is faster, lighter, and has DX11. For DX11 alone XP is already out of the question when building a gaming PC.

Why 64 bit? Supports over 4GB of memory and the few 64 bit games that are out there (think Half-Life 2).
