I guess they're just as freaked out as you are. hehe
If there's really a call for your speaking in English or it's your only means or medium of communication
Then you're gonna have to live with those friggin stares.
Remember when you're in a third world country yet with a strong and heavy western influence, let alone in a jeepney, and speaking in english inside the very traditional means and one of the cheapest mode of transportation,
you are more likely to involve yourself in a cultural collision course.
In my opinion, most people of our culture is one of the most paranoid and xenophobic
They are most likely to see you as a showoff--that if you're evidently a native filipino speaker
just trying to sound fancy in a place where english is least likely to be heard.
Or worst...if you're english is nothing less of like a newly hired callcenter agent trying to sound newyorker and ended up sounding like a drunk blonde boarder of the west coast with a slight accent from cebu-south...then
you just made yourself the star of a mobile jeepney stand-up comedy.
Remember we're critics too as well as being paranoid![]()

ur using public transportation, so no one speaks english unless it's those carolers or conductors going "it's okay, move move! Sharing is caring diba?"![]()

TS
here are the two of the most common reactions in the people's minds
Given your non-caucassian or puti otherwise they would just stare at you for being white:
"whoa fil-am nisakay ug jeep"
or
"ngee!!! nag english2x bisan gahi kaayo and dili fluent...trying hard to be cool and western"
Now TS
please do tell us
asa ka na belong sa duha?
hehehe
I remember when we speak "chong chu sa we dah i ooo" in Ayala. Pretending to be Chinese to confuse salesgirls.
