The "Quad Core" model actually has 8 cores that work in reverse compared to Hyperthreading : Instead of one core working two threads its two cores working on one thread.
6 Core has 12 cores... 8 Core has 16 cores.
The Cores AMD is referring to is the amount of "Bulldozer Modules" Two tightly coupled, "conventional" x86 out-of-order processing engines.
