Wind-Powered Car Goes 2.8 Times Faster Than the Wind

A while ago the team from fasterthanthewind.org together with Rick Cavallaro announced the development of a vehicle that would be powered by the wind.

The most interesting part was to prove that a wind-powered car can go faster than the wind.

Recently the team carried out a number of tests of their vehicle at El Mirage, California, where they managed to achieve their goal.

The wind-powered vehicle reached a speed that was 2.8 times faster than the speed of wind. The record was officially recognized by the North American Land Sailing Association.

It is worth mentioning that the speed of the wind was 13.5mph.

Aeolus Phone Recharges Battery Using Wind and Solar Power

This concept phone is called Aeolus Phone and it was designed by Cyrene Quiamco. The industrial designer thought about creating a cell phone that would harness renewable energy.

The device uses wind energy to recharge the battery during windy days and when there is no wind the phone makes use of solar power.

It is also possible to use a special tripod to attach the phone to the window of a car so it would use wind to recharge the battery.

Artist Turns Wind Turbine Into World's Biggest Christmas Star

The most important feature of a Christmas tree is the star and here we have the largest star in the world developed by Siemens in collaboration with Michael Pendry, an artist from Munich. The star is composed of 9,000 LED lights that create a magic atmosphere by spinning and illuminating during the night.

It is worth mentioning that the amount of energy it uses is equal to that of a hairdryer. For 12 months Siemens has been working on the revolving star, which today can be observed in Munich. The environmentally-friendly illumination of the Christmas Star is equal to the lighting of 20,000 candles.

The German artist asked Siemens and the Stadtwerke Munchen (Munich City Utilities) to allow him to mount his creation on wind turbines. Now, each blade of the wind turbine, measuring 30 meters, is enriched with 3,000 LED lights.

The Christmas Star will shine above Munich until January 6, the Day of Ephiphany. Visitors and local citizens can observe the star between 4:30 p.m. and 0:00 and between 4:53 a.m. ad 8 a.m.

Wind Lens - Structure that Triples the Power of Wind Turbines

A group of researchers led by Kyushu University professor Yuji Ohya has recently unveiled its latest invention called Wind Lens, a structure that resembles a honeycomb.

The structure is meant to increase the amount of wind energy generated by offshore turbines.

It is worth mentioning that the group presented its latest invention at the Yokohama Renewable Energy International Exhibition 2010.

The Wind Lens functions similar to a magnifying glass that increases the light from the sun. the structure features a hoop (AKA a brimmed diffuser) that is used to increase wind power, and a turbine that rotates by making use of the wind captured from the hoop.

It would be interesting to note that each Lens is 112 meters in diameter and is able to generate energy that would be enough to power an average household

Eolic - Easy-to-install Wind-powered Generator for Small Housing

This device represents a foldable generator that produces energy by making use of wind power.

The main idea of this device is to provide electricity in locations where there's no electric service.

In addition, Eolic can be used as an alternative to the electric service in small housing.

The gadget is rather compact and easy to operate. It is made using lightweight materials such as aluminum and carbon fiber.

One can install the telescoping pole in just three easy steps. It is worth mentioning that the project is the result of a collaborative work of designers Marcos Madia, Sergio Ohashi and Juan Manuel Pantano.

Kezhma Island - Residential Complex Powered by Water, Wind and Solar Energies

Designers from Diseno Earle Architects recently presented their latest project named Kezhma Island, which is meant to enrich the already attractive architecture of Dubai.

The Kezhma Island was designed for the World Island. It is worth mentioning that the main feature of the new complex refers to sustainability. Designers decided to keep the budget levels as low as possible. Nevertheless, the residential complex makes use of a variety of green technologies (wind, water and solar power) to power its luxurious apartments, informs the official website of Diseno Earle Architects.

Tourists will be able to adore the wonderful views of the sea from their rooms, while contributing to the environment. The current project once again proves about the architectural dreams may come true in Dubai.

Helmet that Charges Cell Phones Using Solar and Wind Power

The latest invention coming from Pragnesh Dudhaiya and Aalok Bhatt, two students studying electrical engineering at the Nirma University in Ahmedabad, is a helmet that can be used as a cell phone charger.

By harnessing solar and wind energy, the helmet is able to charge a cell phone in about 40 minutes. The students announced that they are going to file for a patent for their latest invention. It is worth mentioning that the number of accidents in the city increases and more people get serious injuries due to the fact that they do not wear helmets, reports SiliconIndia.

According to Pragnesh and Aalok, their helmet will motivate people to use head protection while on the road. To be able to come up with the innovation, the students needed only three days. During the day the helmet uses solar energy to charge a cell phone, and at night it harnesses wind energy. Pragnesh mentioned that the price for helmet will be Rs. 1,000 (about $22).

kani, nindot jud ni, then pwede pa gani butangan ug intercom if naa 2 or more helmet. para mag-communicate ang drayber ug pasahero. equipped with MP3 players and FM radios.

Sus, kanindot. Solar powered and Rechargeable.

Kalimot lang jud ko piktyur ato ako gibuhat oi, intercom lang jud ang concept sa 2 ka helmet. Pero full duplex iya communication.
