RAS is a large commercial scale practiced in the US-high tech and automated. We can provide a low-tech version instead, may not be as efficient but using our indigenous materials, like rice hulls, coco husk etc., Regarding electricity - innovation and creativity is the key, I will be coordinating with DOST if they can develop an efficient system of oxygenation of the water at a low costs. US uses pure oxygen - with all their control system, I am looking for a Filipinized- low cost alternatives but for now using a simply aerator and air-lift pump.

I am now working on 1 sq. meter with about 150 pcs perhaps about 200 gms each. after 4 months, I made many errors along the way and many expensive mistakes - including fish-kills, slow growth rate etc. Indeed it is difficult to maintain a DO level of greater than 7 unless you pump in more air and improve filtration and circulation. But I am satisfied that I know my mistakes and ready to the next challenge. How to improve plant growth...

On a small scale - like a student it can be frustrating and exciting. When you get to see your fingerlings start up you feel good. When your seedlings sprout you feel excited, but the opposite can happen especially when you are learning. Many things can go wrong.

Enrollment in the US for Aquaponics can cost 600 USD plus ticket plus hotel...since I cannot afford that I will go for the sweat, blood and tears solution...

Try to check master Soggy and master Jeffrey Arrogante from the Hydroponics thread.

Here is a picture of Master Jeffrey's setup.
    Hydroponics thread

I think this is a modified (inato) hydroponics-aquaponics setup.

The principles ani is dali ra man sabton.
    Trial-and-error lang jud noon.

Nindot pod ning aquaponics oi. Pero mas kauyon ko sa hydroponics.
Good business jud ni if maka-setup na mo.

I always did try to avoid hydroponics because I did not want to be dependent on the nutrients and pre-mix after attending the seminar. Where to buy is the next problem.
