truth and other things such as his perception, cognitive skills, judgement etc sometimes could have already been altered by his illness or emotional state. if he's been into an accident, traumatized or depressed, there's a high probability he can't reason out right or state things in a sane typical way.
sometimes dying person lie to cover up something or lessen his guilt and his conscience or to not make everything worst.\
actually it depends on the situation and his story..and his personality.
