religion is a tool for empowering the few by encouraging the ignorance of the many. read the bible and see exactly what Jesus was doing.

if you can't/won't, let me tell you: Jesus was bringing faith and belief out of the clutches of the religious leaders of his time and place (pharisees/saduccees, i think). he wanted your faith to be yours - something personal to you and not fed to you by anyone else. in this he wanted not only to free you but also to make you responsible for your own actions.

not many people can take it, though - being completely responsible for their faith and their actions. a lot of people are, however ready to take advantage of anyone's doubts and inaction to further their own agendas. thus we have organized religion. with organized religion, self responsibility is reduced to manageable levels.

doing something wrong is blamed on temptation which is blamed on satan. being beaten down and having a hard life is blamed on god wanting to punish or teach you. every sunday, millions flock to churches to give their hard earned (or stolen legally or illegally) money (didn't Jesus go on a rampage about this same thing) to organized religion so that they can be told that their lives are going to be okay and that god has a plan and the devil has been thwarted for a week by their continuing attendance to the church.

this is not an attack on organized religion - organized religion is continuing with the business it has been doing for decades. its a critique against those who would sell their faith every week so that they can be told what is 'godly' to do by an organization that has historically been proven to not know any better than they do.

i am not an atheist. i believe - not exactly like you do but that's okay.
