I am not gonna dismiss the future of space travel. Traveling faster than the speed of light maybe possible in the very long future. People thought that it was impossible to go to the moon but we did it. People say that inorder for a planet to support life, it needs to have oxygen. tinuod cguro na for earthlike beings but with all the billions of galaxies out there. Lahi cguro ila periodic table. There might be some specific elements nga wala sa ato that are necessary sa ila survival..it may not be oxygen or even water. Scientist are still trying to figure out how a frog after being frozen for months can survive after being thawed. I know that some people will say that this is the science section and we need facts but remember this, some of our weapons right now were part of science fictions before..because of science fictions, na-encourage ang mga tao to question some facts and find ways to build it. The laser gun, robots ug uban pa..Physics is universal cguro if we are the only beings. Our laws of physics might not be applicable to theirs. This is just my opinion..I believe that we are not alone. our technology as a whole is still in its infancy so let us not close down future possibilities and limit ourselves with the current laws of physics.

While your line of thinking is logical, you still cannot declare that one day, one can travel "faster than the speed of light" because it is a mathematical impossibility. Yes, once it was impossible to fly, and once it was impossible to go to the moon, but we were able to accomplish it, because this was a problem based on GETTING the RIGHT TOOLS to do the job. When we developed the tools, we were able to do it. However, people keep mistaking that the FTL issue is a TOOLS issue when in fact it is a MATHEMATICAL issue. The more proper way of stating your wish, therefore is "I wish someday there was a way to move around the universe via shortcuts through space-time (i.e. wormholes), thus not spend thousands or millions of years to get from Point A to Point B" versus "I wish someday we can travel faster than light"...kay the former question is indeed a question of finding the right tools, rather than challenging a mathematical principle.

you maybe right about that. But like I said, our technology is still in its infancy, some people in the near future will question these mathematical principles and laws of physics. Then new tools will surface..

In the time of Pythagoras, one plus one was equal to two. The answer today is still two, and will forever be two.

is mathematics a universal language? there are real and there are imaginaries.

let me know if OT ra ako pangutana ha.

Are you being funny? Like I said, our technology is still in its infancy. and our mathematical principles are not universal. You are stuck with the thought na kita ra ang tao sa universe. our mathemtical principles maybe way behind sa ila. crude pa kaayo ato mga machines. example ana ang automobiles, gasoline ug uban pa.

I'm being VERY serious, because you seem to be re confusing mathematics as having some sort of flexible property, when it's not--it's a fundamental underlying principle and cannot be changed, no matter what universe you may live in. In fact, the very reason why science works is because of the fact that the mathematical principles, theorems and postulates remain constant throughout the universe.

For instance, why do we know that faraway stars of a certain class will behave in a certain way, when we haven't even been to that star? Simple--we can observe our own sun, because it is closer to the earth, and since we know the mathematical and principles of physics and chemistry that govern the functioning of our sun, based on our observations and the calculations we have derived from observing it, it is logical that when applied to a distant star (with the same general characteristics of our sun), it is easy to predict how it will behave, because the laws of physics and math in that region of space where that star is, and the region of space nearer us, are THE SAME.

Again, ask yourself, will one stone plus another stone equal to something else other than two stones, two hundred thousands years from now? Or even two million years from now. Calm down and ponder on that thought for a moment, so you may begin to understand why mathematics is fundamental.

hehehe.. lingawa nko basa sa thread oi... it was being seen lang gani as an earth like planet, and being a mere 20 lightyears away, naghuna huna na ang uban on how to get there. hehehe...

nganu gsumhan namo sa ato earth? well for me there is no place like home.

its a good thing that scientists are looking for an earth like planet near or far and whatever their reasons maybe, ila sad na but it think its more of like being aware of our surroundings but in a grander scale kai universe naman. they may say that it could support life but we have to think as well that in our life support system we are sustained by the air we breathe which is mostly composed of oxygen and some other elements, but the earth does not have that kind of atmosphere before, it was more harsh and unbearable. yet the earliest organisms were able to adapt to the kind of environment.

so if scientists found out that it could be life bearing or it supports life, it is possible that the planet may have an atmosphere or life support system that is different from ours, and that organisms on that planet were able to adapt to that kind of environment and made a life system out of it, which could be detrimental to us humans or earthlings.

and while most would still believe that someday just maybe someday, space travel with the rate faster than light can be achieved, i think that scientists having brilliant brains than we are, are looking for a much easier way of achieving space travel, than going to the burden of making that thousand year travel.

but given the lastest discoveries of finding planets similar to our own is already a great feat for us, so maybe we should basks at that glory for the mean time... sorry im not a science freak nor possess a degree of expertise, so forgive me if i violated some theorems or postulates.
