the screenplay is brilliant, i'll give it that. its witty its tight really tight not too original though but its good. but Eternal Sunshine is grabbing that trophy. Kaufman is the shizzle!!!

after they let GOSFORD PARK win over MEMENTO, i lost al....

no, waittaminit after they let SHAKESPEAR IN LOVE win Best Picture over SAVING PRIVATE RYAN i lost all my respect for AMPAS... but then Shakespear won many more trophies than SPR and the acting awards, one o' them went to Roberto Benigni. at least they gave the Best Achievement in Directing to SPR.

It's just that, I hope the motherfckers give this one the trophy for Best Original Screenplay.

FINDING NEMO, IMHO had a better screenplay than INCREDIBLES (?) i guess, but I enjoyed this one more... the humor wasn't too juvenile it had something to tickle the funnybone of older people, and hey! it's one of the best action films i've seen recently. Although, unlike NEMO there is no Bobby Darin tune to close the movie in the end

Nemo was all Thomas Newman. he's a hell of a composer. he also did American Beauty, Shawshank Redemption, among many others.

Eternal Sunshine has got the wickedest script this year.

The Incredibles will grab that best animation feature trophy, but i'm afraid thats pretty much it. i wish it could get more.

yeah... when we were watching this, there was a father and son sitting like 3 seats apart. i was paying attention to the kids reaction from time to time. through the course of the movie the kid was like sleeping in his father's lap and the father was having a hell of a good time and so was everybody on the godamn theatre. by the end they were having a good time. everybody was, especially me. never seen that in years. ONE SENTENCE: THIS MOVIE IS SPECIAL!!!

Pixar is becoming even more independent in this movie. I'm seeing more Pixar than Disney (even though I haven't seen the film yet I know it's a bit premature to say something like that; I'll take a look this Sunday) I've heard that they may split anytime from Walt Disney, and make more animated movies by themselves in the future. They certainly have the resources and the skills.

Coming into the theatre, I had no idea I would be watching the most perfect Superhero film ever made. For those of you not raised on comics as I am, you might not get all the in-jokes and references. But what made the whole film work was how it actually USED the storyline greatest comic book ever made (Moore and Gibbons Watchmen)as the basis for the plot, and simultaneously snuck in stuff from Batman, Superman, Fantastic Four and even Star Wars. Plus, a little Suburban Family SitComedy never hurt anybody.

FYI, Watchmen is about a world where superheroes were outlawed because the people of Earth weren't comfortable with their existence. Then, old wounds are reopened when it is discovered that the old Superheroes are being killed-off one by one by an old but unseen enemy, whose plot is to cause a cataclysm that will make him Earth's greatest hero (EXACTLY the same plot as Incredibles).

This is like a Superhero version of Kill Bill because, like KB, it is a love letter to a beloved genre that surpasses that genre by making the whole better than the pieces.

strange though, one week before the showing of incredibles I was reading the Wathcmen, and I saw the similarities in the story. timing kaayo akong gi basa kay maypagka pareho sa incredibles. Still reading it though so ayaw sa i spoil, naa pa ko sa story ni Dr. Manhattan

I aslo thought that it also had similarities to Kingdom Come.

I have to admit. When I first heard about The Incredibles and saw the trailers,I was this close to dismissing it as just another kiddie movie from Disney that would spout the same messages of friendship, family, love, duty, you know. The usual feel good BS.

I'm glad I gave it a chance and now I've learned to expect the unexpected from Disney.

So what's it about? A lost fish with the message of accept who you are or a lass who finds an alien lifeform and divulges the lesson of friendship and family first?

Nope?

It's about a family of super heroes who run around in spandex tights, saving the world, one day at a time.

Wait. Before you guys roll your eyes and say, "what the hell are you talking about, bahmat? Superhero flicks are a dime a dozen these days, from a work of art like Blade to a piece of crap like Krystala. So what's so special about ANOTHER super flick?", hear me out.

As many already know, "The Incredibles" follow the exploits of retires hero Bob Parr aka Mr. lncredible. Years ago, he and all the other supers were the greatest thing since sliced bread, saving the world from every maniacal, Saturday morning cartoon reject villain thrown at them.

Then in a twist that has Disney taking a step into the realms of reality, things start to get hairy for the heroes when people realize that their saviors are just as bad as the villains, thanks in part to the injuries and destruction of property caused by many a super fight. That's when the litigations begin.

That's right.the public SUES the heroes for saving them. The supers are hated for doing their job.

Faced with growing public resentment and costly lawsuits, the goverment forces all the supers to go underground, assume normal lives and never display their powers in public again, in a move known as The Super Relocation Act.

So Mr. Incredible, his wife (Elastigirl) and their kids move into quiet suburbia and settle down, something that doesn't sit well with most of them.

That is, until Mr. Incredible gets a life changing chance to relive the glory days. But soon, he finds himself and his family embroiled in the machinations of a nutjob and they must once again save a world that, ironically, doesn't want their kind around.

What makes the Incredibles such a joy to watch is the fact that, unlike many superflicks, we are not constantly being bombarded with massive explosions, long flashy fight scenes and ear splitting music to cover up an inept writer's inabilty to provide us with material worth the price of admission. In fact all the fights and the boom boom boom take place near towards the end and the music is very easy on the listener.

The producers were on the right track when they decided to dedicate more than half the film to giving us a glimpse of how former superheroes would adjust to an everyday humdrum life, choosing to make them into people we can all relate to instead of vapid good looking 2D characters who go through the motions of saving the world. We know what they feel, what makes them tick. Alot of the things they worry about are things we are all too familiar with: school, taxes, job security, physical insecurities, depression and marital disputes.

Bob Parr is a balding, fat, middle aged man stuck in a dead end job who loves his wife and kids but can't let go of the past while his wife, the former Elastigirl has settled down to the role of mom and her greatest concern is that her kids grow up right and struggles daily between teaching them to do the best they can and forcing them to conform with the standards set by society. Dash is the typical hotheaded little runt who is too young to understand why supers can't use their powers while Violet(a perfect Sadako look alike) is the teenager filled with a whole lot of angst. Come on! Who's to say we all haven't been down one of their roads at some point in our lives?

It is this "fleshing out" of animated characters that makes "The Incredibles" so easily identifiable with just about anybody.

The film is different from most Disney fare in terms of humor and mood. Its entertaining enough for the kids but the adults are more to be taken by the movie than their offsprings. Sexual innuendoes are sprinkled here and there. Jokes and sight gags that poke fun at the superhero stereotye abound. (Monolouging and capes? HA!) Death and murder is shown bluntly here. I tell you, I got the shivers in my spine when that list of supers Syndrome's robot murdered flashed through the screen.

There's also a sense of cynicism here that is reminiscent of The Simpsons and Futurama. When Bob Parr screams, "It's psychotic! People keep thinking up of new ways to celebrate mediocrity!" I almost screamed back, "That's true, Bob! That is so DAMN true!" Listen up, Sandara, Yamchang and you punks from SCQ and Viva Hot Babes!

Characterization ensures that not one character overshadows everyone else. We are all given the opportunity to get to know each of the Parrs by heart. Now this is something Bryan Singer should take into account when he films X3. The title is X-Men ,you goon! It's a team movie! So stop having everyone go intop the background when Wolverine decides to let it rip and go berserk as if he has something up his ass!

Although , to me, Elastigirl (voiced superbly by Holly Hunter), steals the show everytime she's on screen. Does she look as hot as Storm, Rogue or Catwoman? Hell no. But she comes across as perhaps the greatest mom ever and the feistiest, kick-assingest female I have ever seen! Not at all like the whining, spineless, stupid, weak damsel-in-distress-waiting-for-knight-in-shining-armor-to-rescue-her types we are often shown on TV, especially local TV! When Mr. Incredible reveals the reason for his sudden show of machismo during the climax of the film by saying to Helen, "Because I can't lose you again!!" I actually felt a tear roll down my cheek. I know how he feels. Women as independent and as strong as Elastigirl are few and far between. Who'd want to lose them.

The animation is perhaps one of Pixar's best to date, immediately throwing Shark Tale's into the garbage heap and showing the rest of the world that photorealistic graphics don't necessarilly mean a solid and intelligent movie (ouch! bet Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within and The Star Wars prequels felt that one. Good.)

The dialogue is one the best I have ever heard. And so natural too. From the painful bickering of Bob and Helen Parr to Edna Mode's endearing diatribes of capes and costumes and supermodels to Syndrome's monlougues. Most unforgettable line? "The greater good? I am your wife! I am the greatest good you are ever gonna get!" BWA HA HA HA!!! Priceless! Helped along the way by brilliant voice actors? Is there any surprise why the jokes and lines sound so good?

So how good is The Incredibles? Consider this. When my friends and I went to Ayala to catch The Incredibles, they had to pry me from my seat after i forced them to sit down and keep watching for the 3rd time in a row. Then the following day, I headed off to SM to watch it again. From 12 noon to 7:30, I kept watching the reruns again and again because I couldn't get enough of it. My ass was glued to that movie seat for 7 hours. No movie, and I mean NO MOVIE, has ever made me do that before!

So I tell you all: GO WATCH IT NOW!!!

Now. If you'll all excuse me, gotta get dressed. Going to Gaisano Country Mart to watch yet another rerun of the Incredibles then buy a The Incredibles VCD.
