Old school music?? or new school music!?

COOL!! Ezra, how can i get a copy of your originals?? i'm also in a band right now and we have an album out... Hmmm.. I don't have my own kit and i just bought a putty pad last month... I've been playing for almost 10 years but i just realized that i should get back to the basics in order for me to progress.. i pretty much started recording a year after picking up my first pair of sticks that's why i really didn't concentrate on the rudiments that much... i relied mainly on "feel".. That's the main reason why i couldn't record on a click track, although i tried to once with a afro-cuban inspired band.. Still, I ended up recording only one song with them..

I'm on the process of finishing up a new album, but i haven't used a click track on any of the songs.. I knew some of the songs weren't in perfect time but, we decided to keep the takes coz recording time is indeed very expensive.. This is what it means to be going independent rather than signing up w/ a major label.. It sucks but I'd rather have my principles, thank you.. Anyway, what was the name of your previous band? By the way, our band has a mailing list/e-groups, can i invite to join?? is it ok w/ you?? just cant give it out here... can i email you privately??

I have good time... but not entirely perfect.. not on slow tempos anyways.. but anything higher than 90 bpm I can handle. Slow songs are hard to groove on that's why.. Anyways, I think I have good time.
How I achieved it.... from years of practice I guess. I practice with a metronome sometimes doing rudiments and exercises on my stick pad or on a whole kit. There are times that I track songs without a click-track but most often, I record with a click track to make sure that I'm on time..

I don't have a band right now.. I recently moved from NY to ORLANDO, FL and I haven't had the time to look for people to play with. The last band I played, we did power-pop stuff... like The Sundays (we had a female vocalist).

old school are more innovative and luv doing pioneer things ---with the new ones more like lots of mediocre artist....i can enumerate only a little which realy knows there craft like John Mayer, Norah Jones and other which "realy" know their stuffs.

one good arguement in relation to old-school and new-school is the HAIR. Back in the 80's up to the early nineties, bands have this "almighty hairdo". I can always visualize David Lee Roth and his make up, his leotards. They look funny at times but when you close your eyes and use your ears, then you will say "oh, ok, i'll shut up now". I think metallica spearheaded this "short-hair-still-cool-kick-ass-metal-look", when they cut their hair parallel to their Load album. Today's band may have short hair or no hair at all but they have this make up and s**t, the masks. They're grotesque. And sadly they can't back it up with their music.

Well, I'm for old school... by old, I really mean 30 years back...Jethro Tull, Yes, Chicago, Led Zeppellin, Grand Funk Railroad, Moody Blues, Eric Burdon and the Animals, Johnny Winter, Eric Clapton, Cream,Queen, Aerosmith, AC-DC, Billy Joel, Elton John, etc. etc.

But hey, it doesn't follow, that there's a dearth of new musicians that are acceptable to us, blame it on the lousy taste of today's listeners, that's why we have bands that only play two or three chords, the licks are gone!Â* all you hear are distortions and loud guttural (correct my spelling) screams by "vocalist" kunohay!...and I just found out in one of Wowowee's segment, any tikboy, kulas, boy pahak can sing that style!!Â*

New school - i prefer Maroon 5, Rooster, Dave Mathews, Hoobastank, Incubus, John Mayer!
