Sup everyone! Just learning to overclock, so i would love to hear the inputs of our Istoryans...

Here are my questions:

1) How long do you stress test your Processors?

2) What Applications do you use for insuring/checking stability?

3) What is your ideal max temp for an OC'ed Processor?

Use OCCT on medium settings for 10 hrs. stress testing...as for temps...a cool chip is a happy chip...45-50deg. for me is sweet...keep them cool...if you really want to push your system to the limit the most stressful thing you can do is run linpack64 it's what Intel uses for stress testing, but be warned... this will really stress your CPU hard.. about +10-15C more than OCCT will.

1.) 1-2hrs MAX with Prime95 using BLEND test v26.6

2.) Prime 95 v26.6

3.) Depends on the processor, I try not to let it go over 85c

Using synthetic testing like Prime or LinX with AVX is very inconclusive as a lot of people can pass 500 LinX runs, 72hrs blend runs but still crash in daily use or in gaming, the best test to do is use your computer for a week or so w/o powering it off and just run your apps/games normally.

LinX and Prime WILL degrade your processor over time with extended usage.

I didnt even say anything about your "non BS" comment, the lack of English comprehension skills is somewhat amusing.

Para kasabot ka brad kay feel man nimo soheto kaayo kas forums ( so says a lot of other members talking about you,not my words. ) na lingaw rakos imong gi post kay 60c kung CPU but 90c kung GPU, nobody said it was wrong or incorrect.

On stock clocks + stock cooling, when you run LinX you dont even get to keep it under 70c, for GPU 90c is perfectly fine for everyday usage but when you up the voltage and clocks 90c will give you some stability issues, 85c MAX should be ideal.

For normal usage it is "normal" for stock speeds to even go above 60c.

If wala ka kasabot sa context sa reply its better to just ask why or keep your mouth shut.

Keep the BS to your self, you have no credible knowledge about overclocking ( no offense ).
Added: 60c is like Intel Coppermine era where 60c is the Tmax and 58c was everyone's goal.

Can you post more details on your processor/motherboard so we can give you a more definitive numbers to work around and get rid of this guesswork, also add in your cooling to the info.

I actually run Vantage/3dmark06/3dmark11 CPU tests first when initially testing for stability, I just loop the CPU tests 3x then do a full run on the entire bench then I move to Prime95 blend for just 1-2hrs max, dont wanna degrade the processor that much.

amd 64x2 5000 @ 2.9ghz air cooling with CM Hyper 212(forgot the exact name) max temp at 65C with Prime

i usually just go with Prime95 for stress testing(Blend) for 1 hr on average(depending on my spare time)...and if there is no error reported then i leave it be... so i guess i am not doing this right? and with my board not having much oc'ing potential, what can i do more?

The Hyper 212 is a good cooler for its price, configure it with push-pull fan config and your golden!

Yeah for that kind of hardware the overclocking potential is either limited by the board or processor, Im not familar with the stock speeds of that processor, but what I can tell you 65c with prime is super safe.. IIRC the X2's works with a thermal shutdown between 90-100c so if you hit 75c in prime thats still very acceptable that would give you something like 65c in real world apps.

Yes your doing things right, as long as it does not crash with your everyday usage its stable. Also under prime make sure "round of checking" is enabled.

so i guess i can still squeeze a little more juice out of this processor...
