Firefox is packed with great and useable plugins compare to chrome or any browsers.

I'll have 10 to a dozen tabs open and task manager says firefox is using 300,00 ~ 500,000 KB of memory and things slow to a crawl

Stable na ba ang adblock sa chrome? Or any ad block plugins sa any browsers? Ky so far ang adblock plugin sa firefox ang pinakastable, in case you don't know this plugin. Speed is almost the same with FF, chrome and IE, but it may depend on your connection, pc hardware and installed apps and plugins. For great security features, I say firefox. Startup speed, chrome.
