I am an animal science/geneticist originally from canada who calls cebu home for more than 3 years now.
I have experience farming baboy, kanding, manok, etc and i am surprised still at the optimism in the Baboy markets here.

can i ask a dumb question, has the low prices of baboy and the high costs of feeds gotten others to wonder the viability of the business?

Kanding have been most profitable for me so far in Cebu, not counting the imported manok i sell in small numbers.

Baboy can be a great business, i have seen it so profitable in Canada before. but it seems oversupplied here and high, HIGH feed costs make it risky.

has anyone started with some Asian Breeds like Meishan?
I hope to start with some soon, on our farm near Barili.
They taste asian, so the opportunity to sell at higher price is there, and also they grow fast. Can cross them to most white breeds also.

I have access to a Duroc also, but i see very little here.

any other breeds, people trying to do something different?

Wow nice ani nga forum daghan kaayu ko ug nahibaw-an ninyu mao nga mo post lang ko dinhi. Last two weeks nahuman na ang ako na construct nga little piggery sa south. Nag start lang sa ko ug 5 nga hybrid nga piglets ug hastang mahala gyud diay sa feeds. pero sigi antoson nalang.
