    Default another GWEN's blunder!

aside from the CICC controversy, another slap on the governor's face has emerge.

4 Cebu schools in ‘last 10’ list

    By Nancy R. Cudis
    Sun.Star Staff Reporter

FOUR public elementary schools in Cebu were counted among the 10 lowest-performing schools in English in the country for school year 2006-2007, based on test results for sixth-graders.

The Department of Education (DepEd) recently directed all its offices and schools to align their priorities with a project that aims to “turn around a low performance in English.”

This, after 1,898 elementary schools and 264 high schools in the country only achieved a mean percentage score (MPS) of 34 percent or below in English in the school year 2006-2007 National Achievement Test (NAT).

The Cebu schools in the bottom 10 list for Grade 6 are Loay Elementary School in Toledo City (27.86 percent MPS); Tangub Elementary School (28.48 percent) and Anislag Elementary School (28.88 percent), both in Pinamungahan; and Lib-og Elementary School in Sogod (28.75 percent).

    Rest of the Story

Gwen donated P5 million to Lahug for classroom construction even if shes not obliged to do so just because she and Mary Ann delos Santos has one thing in common-theyre both Tommy's enemy.. shes not even aware that schools in the province where she is the governor need more of her attention.

Tommy is right. the governor is just a political operator!

Lib-og..I think thats the name of the school nga hapit na mi batuhon sa mga bata sa una 1998 when I was assigned in Cebu.Nanuroy mi sa Bukid during that time naa daw kulto nga nauso dha.For me ,the location of the school and the standard of living in that place really affected the quality of childrens education.Halos liblib na ang lugar ambot lang karon.

But at one point our public officials should prioritized these childrens education.Tama na ang sobrang pamulitika.DAghan kaau ang nagkinahanglan og saktong serbisyo!

Let's dig a little deeper: what about the "brain drain" trend of this particular sector of our society? Cebuano grade school teachers in New York / New Jersey, Chicago, Maryland, Florida and Texas are a dime-a-dozen, "literally". I've met a few of our beloved teachers, some of whom were the principals of their respective schools. Most of them were the best / top teachers in their schools in the Northern / Southern part of Cebu Province.

If you wonder why this is so: only the top teachers in their field ie mathematics who happen to be their school's best English speakers are the ones who pass these tests (IELTS, TOEFL, TOEIC, state board for Educators Certification etc etc). I am very sure that a couple or more of these teachers in every public grade schools are already waiting for their work visas or worse, they're already flying to those states mentioned above as of this writing.

that means: public schools would be left with rejects in the next 10-15 years or so. expect declining test results not only in English but other subjects as well.

the question is: where would these schools find experienced, capable and qualified replacements when the rest of the pool are already waiting to try their luck abroad? waiting for their turn to get out of this country...

this issue of "poor" english achievement test results transcends Gwen and Tomas. it's a problem that's even bigger than DepEd. it's an issue where the government should focus on RIGHT NOW before ALL the teachers in both public and private grade schools, high schools and colleges would migrate because there's nothing left in our country to hold on to financially as well as personal growth.

and I'm only talking about particular states in the US. how many teachers are needed in other parts of the world? imagine that....
Shut Up! Let your GAME do the talking!
