Default [linux] pkg-config against aptitude & synaptics

    I just installed ubuntu 7.10, after I

    sudo apt-get install build-essential

I still get errors installing source-installers (katong mga ./configure -> make -> make install nga apps).
The configure script is reporting I do not have (a lot of) libraries eventhough it's already listed in the Synaptic package manager to be 'installed' in my system.

This has happened to me before katong libraries installed through emerge (portage sa akong gentoo 2006 before) and I can manually configure pkg-config to list all that was installed via portage para mu gana ang ./configure----I can do this again (all the hassle) but my question is, is there a (shorcut) way (or script) that syncs my pkg-config listing to that of Synaptic's already-installed list?

You should really stop using apt-get ... use the aptitude command itself. Aptitude gives better dependency resolution and tends to break things less. With that said, I have never had to ./configure any piece of software that was already in the debian repositories. build-essential and it's dependencies ... libc6-dev, libc-dev, gcc, make, and dpkg-dev all already have ubuntu packages.

    a simple

    Code:
    aptitude update
    aptitude install build-essential
... should be enough to get things going. Answer yes to whatever it needs.

Whether you use synaptic, apt or aptitude, it shouldn't make a difference since they are just front-ends to apt's database. On a side note, make sure you also add the universe and multiverse repositories to your sources. And yes, post errors ... or better yet, give me root and I'll fix it, heh.

Can you post the error message. Maybe naa ka mga development (dev) files na wala nimo na install.

Curios lang ko unsa man pud ang imong gi-compile?

    Can you try sudo apt-get build-dep <package_name>
