    Default Alcoy vs Ateneo brawl

Porma pa lang daan sa kumo, bayot na kayo. Nagpa ila lang jud na bata rai kaya.

THREE members of the Alcoy Football Club who played in the Under-18 football match of the 16th Aboitiz Football Cup, which ended in violence last Sunday, will file child abuse charges against the parents who allegedly attacked them.

The Cebu Football Association (CFA) is investigating the brawl that occurred during a game between Alcoy FC and Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC). CFA vice president Rico Navarro said they are conducting a series of meetings to determine who will be sanctioned.

During the incident three players of the Alcoy FC was hurt. The team’s goalkeeper Rodenel Binolirao Jr. had a gash in the head after being struck by one of the spectators. Two other Alcoy FC players were allegedly kicked by parents during the commotion.

    Capitol dragged

Binolirao and a SHS-AdC were wrestling on the field when a man came in and mauled the Alcoy FC goalie. Another spectator broke up the fight.

SHS-AdC has yet to release a formal statement on the incident.

“We have the support of the Province (Provincial Government). We will be sending a formal letter to the CFA and Ateneo. The three kids will be brought to the city…and will file a case of child abuse against the parents who were responsible for the attack,” Glenda Antig, Alcoy FC coach, told Sun.Star Cebu.

Antig said a fight among players during a football match is natural.

“A parent joined in on the action and our goalie got bloodied,” she said. “Based on our interview, two others were also kicked by parents. We are used to seeing player against player and it is okay for us but not this.”

Alcoy Mayor Nick de los Santos expressed dismay at the feedback he received from those who watched the game.

He said a town councilor’s son overheard someone making a derogatory comment about Alcoy players being poor and coming from rural areas.

De los Santos said the incident last Sunday showed that the players from Alcoy knew more of the game than the SHS-AdC parents who were allegedly involved in the brawl.

    Still playing

“Sila ang nigawas nga walay alam sa dula. Sila’y taga bukid. Sila’y walay disiplina (They are the ones who don’t know anything about the game. They are the ones who are from mountains and have no discipline),” de los Santos said.

He said the parents of the other Alcoy FC players will help the three who will file charges against some SHS-AdC parents.

Despite the incident, Alcoy FC said they will not pull out of the tournament.

“We teach our students not get discouraged,” Antig said.
