3 days ago, I received an email (anonymous hushmail) stating that I was selected as one of the few applicants for a work in Canada. It is for Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital in Alberta,Canada as a staff nurse. They had tempting employment package wherein you will only pay for the British Accent Coaching and medical examinations. As for the processing of papers including the working permit and Visa, it will be shouldered by the employer. It really made me excited because it is a big opportunity. But the thing is, they need me to pay via LBC for the British Accent Coaching (may 12-13, 2012) which is 3750 php to reserve a slot. Instantly, I was doubtful about it. The coaching will be held in Makati, Manila which is very far from Cebu. So I called their office and asked my inquiries. The person I talked to cannot even provide their Business TIN number and the names of the Canadian trainers. I did some background check via online. The Glenrose Travel and Tours which they said to be the place where the coaching will be held is not even the establishment found by google maps as I searched the address they provided. But I really don't know what is the truth, coz' basically I can't check the address personally. I also tried to check the POEA website. They had a forum about job scams abroad via online. One of the things to watch out is agencies asking for payment. Based on the Philippine Law, legitimate agencies are prohibited from charging, imposing or accepting directly or indirectly, any amount of money goods or services, or any fee or bond for any purpose whatsoever before employment is obtained for an applicant worker.
But until now, I am still wondering if I am blessed to have detected immediately a scam and not fall for it OR did I let a big opportunity pass by.
