There's no hard and fast rule about it. You can actually breed your dog in her first heat. However in some articles I read, experts say that like human beings, dogs have stages and development process to go through from a pup, young adult (6 months to a year), adult (1 yr to 2years old), matured and old. In every stages, her psychological-emotional-physical needs must also be met in order for her to be totally developed as a dog. Normally a female dog heats upon reaching 8 months of age. This stage is comparable to a ten-ager girl up to a young adult (18 years old) who are mostly not ready, psychologically, emotionally and physically to be a mom. Dogs at this stage have different needs like different foods and more exercises for their physical growth; and more socialization and play for their psychological and emotional needs. If the dog gets pregnant at this stage, instead of providing appropriately her needs as young adult, you would instead provide her needs as a pregnant dog. Hence, her physical-psychological-emotional needs will not be met because there will be less exercise, socialization and play.

1) pcci only allows registration of litters coming out of parents both not younger than 8mos old at the time of mating;

2) first heat usually happens at around 6-8mos old, at this age, your dog is still a puppy. would you want a puppy to bear her puppies too?

read this article, in it it says a year old dog is equivalent to a 15yo human girl. 2 yrs old is 24yo at human years... add four years to every year after age two and you'll get their human years equivalent.

ask lang sad ku, since gi discuss ang ideal age sa pag breed sa dam....how about the stud dog? i know pcci requires at least 8months old at the time of mating, but would you recommend otherwise?

there are male dogs na early maturing, there are some na late maturing.
my janggo then was proven at age 10mos. i had another pug na 11yo na dili pa japon
pagunit sa iyaha... so to each his own siguro in terms of males.

how would you define a mature male dog? basta pagunit ok na, as long as 8 months or more na iya age?
