i bought a seagate 80gb ide and installed it as slave to my maxtor 40gb ide. i used disk management to set-up the seagate. i just follwed thru the wizard then the end result was a dynamic disk with simple volume. ok lang yan or should i delete the volume then change it to basic disk?

i reformattted the system disk which is the maxtor, then i converted it also to dynamic.

    boot sector thing......

as based on my experience about HDD... u cant tell which is better or not because usually ang cause sa guba na boot sector is man sa proper use, g unsa nmu pag operate sa imu HDD, naakoi cases na encounter about sa maxtor, ug seagate, pareha ra man cla na naa jd tym na maguba ila boot sector, and to think dli na nila ibaligya sa market kun ingun ana man ang ila HDD, and besides dagko mana cla na company, so dapat naa mana cla quality control, apil pa jud ang standards ana ug check... FYI most HP branded computers uses MAXTOR HDD's.

further on that boot sector thing...

ive been using this maxtor 40gb ide diamondmax9 for about 2 years now, and still, i havent encountered that boot sector problem neither do i have any idea what it is.

@vrad03, i agree with you cuz u really cant tell which brand is best, its just a matter of how ur using it. my maxtor is highly maintained, and ive been using this without any partition, except C:, of course, defragment every week or if i have nothing to do, remove unwanted files, etc.

@smiug_waf, the main reason m buying another seagate is because i want to have another HDD where i could install another winxp, for backup purposes. my main drive would still be the maxtor.

i have a friend who owns an internet cafe here, and he's been using seagate hdd for his units for more than 5 years now, and so far, no problems. even his 5400 rpm seagates' still performs well.

in your case, i dont know what cause ur drive to fail, but still, you should not make judgement on seagate brands, or any type of brands, cuz you'll encounter this in one occassion or another.

besides, all seagates carry with them a 5-yr warranty card that you can use whenever necessary.
