personally, i go with samsung lcds (tv or lcd monitor).

for the specs:
1. response time: (grey-to-grey) smaller (e.g. 2ms) means faster response (e.g. nice for games, action movies)
2. contrast ratio: higher is better
3. input connectors: pick ones that have dvi or those with dvi _and_ hdmi/display port/analog
4. i'd pick one that has an aspect ratio of 16:10 or 16:9 (wide screen)

now, depending on the store, you might want to check out the ff:
1. price
2. warranty (parts and service), replacement period (how long after you purchased the unit they will give outright replacement if the unit is found to be defective)
- (if corporate buyer ka) whether store provides service unit while your unit is being repaired

i agree samsung lcd monitors are a bit pricey... but as the saying goes "you get what you pay for"...
i'd rather spend more on a good, quality lcd monitor/tv rather than spend even more (in terms of repairs, time waiting for repair, etc.) for lesser-quality products.

stick to tried-and-true brands.
