News publicity is also very effective in creating a desire for travel to a particular destination. Newspapers, radios, televisions, films and magazines are excellent means for promotion of the travel trade. While newspaper circulation is falling in the developed world, India is witnessing a different trend. In India and particularly in a state like Kerala, the increase in newspaper circulation is defying a global recessionary trend in the print media. Most world governments are actively promoting tourism like any other product.

Some UN agencies like United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), International Labor Organization (ILO) and the World Trade Organization (WTO) are assisting the developing countries in various ways to develop tourist facilities, tourist infrastructure and also for conducting training programmes to upgrade the skill sets of the local workforce in the hospitality sector.

In Kerala resorts and other hospitality centers now find more tourist bookings due to factors like:
1. The increasing disposable income
2. Rapid urbanization
3. Increase in leisure time due to shorter working hours
4. Longer paid holidays
5. Avenues for advanced education, and
6. The opportunities arising due to the increasing mobility brought about by the motor car and the airplanes

The positive factors that have led to the growth of tourism in Kerala have come about due to the change in the attitude of the common man. The tourism department has also now risen up to the occasion to provide world class facilities at local costs. To the newer entrants into the hospitality sector, incentives are given to subsidize the publicity cost, even though very few people have properly availed it.
