Bro if you can afford to do crossfire on 2900xt's.. Why don't you go SLi on two 8800GTX's.. hehehe.. Just my opinion.. and uhmm..

i might be mistaken on the 2900xt being equal to the 8800GTS 640.. They trade blows depending on the game. There are times when the 2900xt is better and also times when the 8800GTS 640 is better.

this is right, quite impractical to go for 2 xfire 2900xt compared to sli 8800gts 640mb.
-8800gts is much cheaper

**but if your going to OC 2900xt, it will outperform 8800gts 640mb.

that would actually depends on the cards that youre going to xfire and sli.

howabout xfire 2900xt 512mb 512bi, 2x20k=40K practical?

you can sli w/ 7600gt and will not cost you more than 12k.
everything will depend on the card that your gonna sli or xfire.
