Cash reward for Aves capture raised to P300T

CEBU CITY Mayor Tomas Osmeña will pay P20,000 for clear photographs of Aristotle Aves, who is allegedly a hit man of the Alpha Kappa Rho (Akrho) fraternity.

Aves has been linked to several killings, including a recent spate of drive-by shootings.

The mayor also said in his press conference yesterday that Aves is being protected by local officials.

“I want a clear picture of Aves. I will pay up to P20,000 for a very clear picture of Aves. This picture will be used for reprinting and dissemination,” said Osmeña.

The mayor also said he will pay P3,000 to P5,000, depending on the value of the tip, for any information on Aves. He said he is particularly interested in Aves’ contact numbers, profile of his girlfriend, and his whereabouts.

“I want the picture first,” said Osmeña, who said the police does not have a clear picture of the suspect. The P20,000 reward will not be given per picture but for all the clear pictures submitted, regardless of the number.

Osmeña also raised his original reward of P200,000 for the capture of Aves to P300,000.

He said information he gathered indicated that local government officials are protecting Aves “somewhere in Carcar City.”

“The people of Carcar will have P300,000 if they could identify Aves and lead us to him. Anyway, we would methodically build up a profile on him and we will be able to buy information on him, even if it doesn’t necessarily lead to his capture,” said Osmeña.

He also said that it is possible that Akrho is hiding him but Osmeña said he is “running after Aves and not Akrho.”

“It’s possible that Akrho as an organization is not necessarily hiding him but Akrho’s supporters are,” Osmeña said.

Senior Insp. George Ylanan, who heads Task Force Aves, said the move by the mayor “will definitely increase the law enforcers’ chances of arresting him.”

Alpha Kappa Rho (Akrho) regional president Richard Buscaino, meanwhile, expressed doubts that Aves is the gunman in the Oct. 4 drive-by shootings in Cebu City that killed three people and injured four others.

Buscaino said it is unlikely for Aves to carry out the crimes because he has been missing for the past three years.

Buscaino said in an interview over radio dyLA that the fraternity has not heard from Aves since 2004.

“As far as I know, dugay na kaayo siyang wala. I sent feelers for him to surrender three years ago. Wala’y tubag (I got no reply),” he said.

Buscaino also said that Aves has long been suspended from the fraternity after his name was linked to a murder incident.

If Aves is indeed behind the shootings, Buscaino said, then he is doing it on his own and does not have the blessing of the fraternity.

Buscaino pledged to coordinate with police if they have any information on Aves.

Meanwhile, a 57-year-old woman who was shot twice in the back by a frat member inside her house in Barangay Alang-Alang, Mandaue City is in the intensive care unit of a local hospital in Cebu City.

Ortega was shot twice allegedly by a drunk frat member identified only as Reynan, an Akrho member who got angry when she refused him from fetching water beside her house.

Reynan, who is being hunted by police, allegedly barged inside Ortega’s house and shot her four times, hitting her twice in the back. (NRC/JST/with AIV)
