Why commercial jets are not equipped to avoid missiles?

because they are not fighter planes they are commercial planes.

1 missile = 30 passengers weight .. so why bother when u can have more profit.. jst kidding.. dont have idea about weights anyway..



i think its possible to equip commercial planes just like what they did to airforce 1.



EDIT: I think pilots have those flare guns? i dont know what it is called.. the one that when shot the missiles will chase it.

I read somewhere nga it only took 12 seconds for the missile to hit Malaysia Airlines flight 17.

For that small amount of time, wa na kay time i-react. Nya bug-at pa jud ang aircraft with all the passengers and cargoes so..

an ordinary surface-t0-air missile can travel 2-3 times speed of sound...

and there is n0 commercial airline operating at supersonic speed right n0w ( bef0re, there was British Airways C0ncorde).

pr0bably they can depl0y flares and countermeasures...but its quite difficult t0 have evasive manuevers
carrying hundreds of passengers ab0ard and thousands of t0ns 0f carg0.

best thing f0r commercial flights are t0 avoid airspace in c0nflict areas.
