Default sa inyo lng opinion about intel (tic toc model)

about sa padaun nga ngkagamay ang size sa chip, you think dali na ni kaau maguba?

kay sa padayon nga ngkagamay, daghan pud ang idungag tungod sa advances sa technology nga dili magpaulahi. and intel never said about durability sa ilahang products or ang lifespan all they have is that every 2 (tick) year ang architecture sa ilahang proc kay mgkagamay and every year(tock) naa sila new product ipagawas.

and since im going to build a new gaming pc this october i think ill just go for the current and wont be waiting for ivy. so i think ill be in the TOC model.

    what can you guys say?

i dont know if its true pero sa ibang forums sabi nila yung toc daw ay slower version of the tick if you know what i mean. though its still okay for me. the main question ko lng ay yung durability of the upcoming proc's kay nagkagamay ang mga chips tapos daghan gipang addition so murag sardinas tanawn tapos syempre daghan mga features so paspas mo.init, in my opinion.

murag kung dili nimo e.OC ang imong CPU murag magdugay man gyd guro or kung ma tsambahan ka sa mga Factory defect nga mga item.

ako lang e copy-paste para dali ra nila masabtan.

    Intel's Tick-Tock Model

Designed to maintain cadence in ongoing innovation of mainstream Intel® microprocessor technology, Intel utilizes the ‘tick-tock’ model. Using this model, Intel has successfully delivered next-generation silicon technology as well as new processor microarchitecture on alternating years for the past several years.

Tick (process technology advancement) - Fulfilling the prediction of Intel founder and technology visionary Gordon Moore, in what is popularly called Moore’s Law, Intel delivers a new silicon process technology every other year. This ‘tick’ of process technology advancement dramatically increases transistor density while enhancing performance and energy efficiency within a smaller, more refined version of the microarchitecture in production at the time.

Tock (new microarchitecture) - Delivering a new microarchitecture on alternating years, Intel is able to optimize the value of the increased number of transistors and technology updates enabled by the new process. Intel® microarchitecture advancements not only improve energy efficiency and performance, but increase functional density with features, such as hardware-supported video transcoding, encryption/decryption, and other integrated technologies.

For instance, Intel® microarchitecture code name Nehalem (a tock) was initially introduced on the 45nm process technology (a tick). The 2010 Intel® Core™ processor family was the 32nm 'tick' version of the Intel® microarchitecture code name Nehalem. Intel microarchitecture code name Sandy Bridge (tock), initially introduced on 32nm process technology, is the foundation of the 2nd generation Intel® Core™ processor family. And, the 22nm tick of the 2nd generation Intel Core processor family is due to be in production at the end of 2011.

i think bsag dle nimo e.OC pas2 ghapon mo init, sa stock speed pa lng daan nga 3ghz sa 2nd gen icore series 50degrees-C na daan average sa tnan nga proc when loaded. (correct me if im wrong).

I think nabali nimo bai. The smaller the nano-process, the better chances it has to last longer since it produces lesser heat, which by the way kills the chip. Less heat since lesser current is needed to pass through the smaller silicon die.

As to the roadmap, i dont think it is that loyal to the pattern anymore. Within a Tock, other variations in architecture are also present. Lynnfield was considered a Tock but Bloomfield was the real Nehalem Tock. But then there was also a variation in the Core Architecture from Bloomfield to Lynnfield with the reduction in memory channel and change in chipset interface (QPI to DMI). Clarkdale was the Tick but then, along with the new lithography, it also came with a slight advancement in architecture with the addition of IGP and PCI-e controller. With the upcoming Ivy Bridge, though its a lithography advancement over the Sandy chips, minor changes in the architecture cannot be avoided, that is to be able to address power-gating management.

(Well this is what I know so far. Im not claiming to be an expert and am far from being one nor do i have any intention to be one.)

Personally though, I have made a resolution to resist upgrading until Haswell comes around. There is a greater chance that the upcoming Tick will utilize the same cpu socket as the previous Tock. Maybe Broadwell will come with the same socket as Haswell, then it would not be too much hassle to upgrade (I sure hope so).
