How do people treat each other in view of love specifically romantic love? For Ayn Rand
" A selfless, disinterested, love -writes Ayn Rand- is a contradiction in terms; it means that one is indifferent to that one which values." In one of her novels, I remember a line says that before you say I love you, one must learn to say I. Loving someone is to validate first his own character, a man who cannot value himself cannot value others. Persons love each other because of their own value. If they see each other as compliments of their own lives and can find personal pleasure then they should value each other. A husband who saves his drowning wife is not a selfless act but a selfish act. He saves his wife because she is of value to him. The act same goes to the wife, the wife values her husband because he is of value to her.
Still the italicized part is taken from the same book.
