Default Any ISP Is Compatible w/ Any Brand & Model of Modem?

Is this possible? Othey have specific units to be used? Because I have an extra modem here and I want it to replace the bundled modem given by ISP so that it can cool down at sometimes...

I have tried replacing it before but it failed to connect, though im not sure if I configured it correctly...

ops! sorry, modem diay bro, not router, nasayop.

gisulayan nako before pero wala man effect... maybe there was a misconfiguration? i have heard that in foreign countries, people just buy any adsl modem and just plug into the wall socket of their homes and boom, internet connection is available right away. so im guessing nga any adsl modem will do as long as it is configured correctly?

just a suggestion - maybe the isp's need to get your new adsl modem/router's mac or something for authentication.
Asking your ISP's for help maybe the best way to run your new modem/router.

    @ all

hey guys, i have installed the modem again to see what's its webpage structure...anyway, the modem is ALCATEL SPEEDTOUCH 530.

here is the link of its details http://www.speedtouch.co.uk/prod530.asp?menuCurrPos=2.

my net connection is somewhat like a fix/static semi-dedicated line. its has 1 IP, 1 Subnet Mask, 1 Gateway, and 2 DNS. i have tried connecting the modem last dawn to my personal pc and the signal went okay, all lights are green and the assymetric dsl connection is established but i still cannot connect to the internet. i was confused much in its user webpage interface. i have choosed the "bridged" for surely my connection isnt a point-to-point protocol over ethernet. i am confused in its user webpage interface where to put the IP,Gateway,Subnet Mask, and DNS i have and how to configure all the others for me to connect on the net... the bundled/original modem is ZTE DXDSL831 which was given by my ISP. by the way, i dont want to use a separte router, i want to use the modem as a router. Does anyone here know how to configure this model and brand of modem which is the ALCATEL SPEEDTOUDCH 530? Please teach me guys how to...
