    Default Cuenco vs. Dalawampu

Dalawampu inisists Cuenco did give cash to Hung (one of the suspects in the Mandaue drug bust who now wants to be a state witness) but Cuenco denies this.
Now, fingerpointing is the name of the game. Who do you think is telling the truth?

Lawyer Gloria Lastimosa-Dalawampu said Monday she was willing to subject herself to an examination – an eye examination, not a lie detector examination as proposed by Representative Antonio Cuenco (Cebu City, south district).

Dalawampu stood by her claim that she saw the congressman give Hung Chin Chang – one of 11 people accused of operating a shabu laboratory in Mandaue City – several P1,000 bills after Hung was examined in court on July 21.

“Dili ko bakakon (I am not a liar),” she said. “(But) I agree to seeing an eye specialist. Tingale dili sakto ang akong nakit-an (Maybe there was something wrong with my vision).”

She said she would not take up Cuenco’s challenge for the both of them to undergo a lie detector test because a polygraph test was unreliable. She said people who were used to lying could make it look like they are telling the truth.

She said she was less than three meters away from Cuenco when she saw the congressman give the money to Hung, who is being groomed to be a state witness in the shabu laboratory case.

Although she could not ascertain exactly how many bills Cuenco gave Hung, she said she and her staff definitely saw the money exchanged hands.

“I have no reason to tell a lie but he (Cuenco) has so many reasons to give money to Hung,” she said.

Dalawampu suggested that Cuenco take a lie detector test instead.

“He is the one denying,” she said.

She recounted that on July 21, Cuenco arrived in court while Hung – also known as Simon Lao – was on the witness stand.

After Hung was questioned, he left the stand and immediately approached Cuenco while his lawyer, Danilo Yap, was outside the courtroom.

“He (Cuenco) shook his (Hung) hand and said, ‘Thank you.’ He took out his wallet. Nalipay gyud siya (He was really happy). He took out P1,000 bills but I do not know how many,” she said.

Dalawampu pointed out that Cuenco had much hanging on Hung, since the prosecution had tagged her client, Calvin Tan, as the alleged financier of the shabu operation found in Mandaue, and were using Hung to testify against Tan.

Cuenco, however, disputed Dalawampu’s narration by revealing a personal fact.

“I have no wallet,” he said.

The congressman said he had not carried a wallet since his college days, specifically, after he was victimized by a pickpocket.

This fact, he said, was known to everyone who knew him, and Dalawampu’s inclusion of a wallet in her accusation was a clear sign that she was lying.

“Dako siyang bakakon sa tanang nangamatay sa kalibutan (She’s one of the biggest liars among all who have died on this world),” Cuenco said.

Cuenco said that when he brings money, he places this into the pockets of his pants, and it was always in P100 denominations so that he could easily give this out to constituents who ask for monetary assistance.

The lawmaker said he challenged Dalawampu for both of them to undergo lie detector tests to show the public who between them was telling the truth.

Dalawampu’s refusal, he said, was proof of her guilt.

Regardless, Cuenco said he would not take legal action against Dalawampu, unless the lawyer plainly accused him of bribery.

Unless it goes there, Cuenco said it would be up to the people to decide who was telling the truth. /With

Cuenco = tiguwang na, basin ug dala na ni o sugod na ba ang ango-ango mao nga careless kung pananglit tinuod man gani. Ambisyoso sad ni siya as a congressman.

Dalawampu = maayong pagka abogada. Bright ug isog.
